“Totally different denominations. Obamas church pastored by Jeremiah Wright, Trinity United, is part of United Church of Christ. They attempt to use the Bible to preach their Marxism.”
Wow! Now that says a lot! Thanks.
So if it’s an Obozo type church it will always say “United” in front of “Church of Christ” correct?
United Church of Christ is a different monster. Church of Christ is not so bad.
UCC is very much like PCUSA only they are leading the way out in front. They’ve been heading down the liberal road for a long time.
My mom visited one once and in the sunday school they said believing in the Trinity was optional, that it really didn’t matter.
How this disgusting butchery can be called sacred is beyond me.
If faith comes by hearing (and it does) then it's way past time to examine just what you're 'hearing'.Because in this case it certainly isn't "Him with whom we all have to do"
“My mom visited one once and in the sunday school they said believing in the Trinity was optional,..”
Waiter, check please!

I have to figure it this way. Either this minister is a total retard (no offense to those with Trisomy 21) or else he has never seen an actual abortion in his entire life.
When you visit a church — before you visit — go to their website and read their statement of faith and all their affiliations and recommended resources. Some you can mark off based on denomination and affiliations. Some may have an ok denomination but are rogue within the denomination They are usually pretty proud of their waywardness and you will be able to recognize it on their website. See statement of faith, resources, youth programs (especially vulnerable area so check it out even if you do not have youth in your family), and pastor backgrounds. If you can, listen to past sermons. It will save you time and heartbreak.
I read one website statement of faith that read more like a leftist political statement than a biblical one. Turned out it was a liberal oddball within the Southern Baptist denomination.
Yes, “United” should be in the name. In contrast, the Church of Christ is almost the polar opposite. They are a conservative evangelical denomination. I know many who belong to the Church of Christ. Some of my very best friends have been Church of Christ. I have theological issues with them because they tend to be legalistic and they add works to grace, but in terms of social/political matters, most are in lockstep with the typical FReeper.

I like the way you word that. I have been in churches and witnessed it first hand. Nothing you can do but RUN.
Blasphemy, blasphemy, blasphemy! And I think for a minister, an unforgivable sin!
Yet he stands in front of the congregation telling them how sacred it all is!
Garbage in,garbage out!
Only a lifetime immersed in progressive thinking could produce something like this - imagine if he had spent his life immersed in the Word of God (imagine if I did).
Funny how everything nowadays makes me look at myself with a critical eye- the good old “Yeah, so what are you doing about it, spotty” - doh!
That is good to know because I have friends in the Church of Christ and I’d hate to think they are in a messed up church!
shuddup
United Church of Christ is Jeremiah Wright, Barry Lynn, etc. IOW left wing radical.
LOL
“Only a lifetime immersed in progressive thinking could produce something like this ...”
I wonder if this minister can even explain to me how and why this is “sacred”. Sacred to who? The mother? The father? Society? Not the baby.
bump
United Church of Christ (UCC) is what we used to call “Congregational”. It is a very liberal denomination. I know, because I worked and studied at a seminary that was mostly UCC, and they were heavy into “Social Justice’ and “Liberation Theology”. Most of the students there were womyn, if you catch my drift.
“Church of Christ’ is a different group entirely. I don’t knopw much about them, except that they are somewhat legalistic and don’t allow musical instruments. They have really good acapella choirs though.
“Poor human reason when it trusts in itself, substitutes the strangest absurdities for the highest divine concepts.”
-St. John Chrysostom (c.347-407)
“Nonsense in the intellect draws evil after it.”
-C.S. Lewis (1898-1963)
“a stupid and sinful populace”
-Joseph Sobran (1946-2010) on the U.S. in 2006
Are they the same thing?
There is also no manual which they have to go by except the Bible.
