Sheen was born in El Paso, Illinois, the oldest of four sons of Newton[8] and Delia Sheen.[9] Though he was known as Fulton, his mother’s maiden name, he was baptized as Peter John Sheen.

Why did the FBI have a file on this man to begin with?

Makes you wonder what else is in the file besides these "fun facts", doesn't it?

Thanks for this post and for the ping. Why won’t Cardinal Dolan allow the investigation into Abp Sheen’s cause for Sainthood to continue?

“Why won’t Cardinal Dolan allow the investigation into Abp Sheen’s cause for Sainthood to continue”

Because Sheen was everything Dolan is not. He was a staunch defender of Christianity, had a great personality, and people believed what he said. It made no difference what denomination they might be. I was raised on watching Archbishop Fulton Sheen with my parents. They would never miss his show, especially my father. They were both Southern Baptists.

Thanks for these further memories.

I'm not sure who presented today's indoctrination to our children, but probably it was us who were so bent on careers as wage-slaves that let our influence slip into the hands of well-meaning but unwise mentors who supplanted us in our duties.

We placed too much trust in educational theorists of the John Dewey and Dr. Spock variety, I fear, and like the Pied Piper of Hamelin, they have stolen our heritage.

that’s his real name, he was named after 2 apostles/2 saints and was given the moniker “Fulton” his mother’s maiden name. Catholics should be named after saints not their mother’s maiden surname.
