As long as it is a VOLUNTARY exchange, it should be of no concern of yours. People who like her message should be free to contribute to her ministry.

Here in the LA Catholic Archdiocese, quite frankly I sometimes have difficulty contributing to the Church when I hear some of the political views espoused by our cardinal and bishops on such issues as illegal immigration (which I oppose) and the death penalty (which I support) an various other issues ranging from domestic spending to the minimum wage.

Trapped Behind Enemy Lines:

Hey you are free to do with your money as you see fit. Nevertheless, I question why anyone would give money to any televangelist type. If you want to finance those folks and their lifestyles [and they do use the money they get from folks like you to acquire “PERSONAL PROPERTY” and “lots of it”, then go for it. In my view, they are charlatans.

As for the Death penalty, one is free to agree or disagree on that, that is teaching that is prudential judgment, not defined dogmatic teaching. I am not for illegal immigration either, but the reality is there are some 10 Million or so here and I don’t see a mass exodus of those folks back to Mexico. What do you do given, the reality they are here is the question? And I tend to not get into politics in the religion forum and never post in the political forum.

Nice that you don’t mix politics and religion. Wish you would convey that to the leadership of the Catholic Church in the L.A. Archdiocese and to the Pope for that matter.

BTW-—For the record I do contribute to the Catholic Church twice a week (I usually attend Mass twice a week) and I never contribute to televangists, although I do think some including Billy Graham, John Hagee, and Joyce Meyer, among others are worth listening to from time to time. I also think Hal Lindsay is VERY interesting and I do watch him every Sunday night. The Catholic Church does not have a monopoly on truth or virtue.

Also, in response to your last question. You certainly don’t reward illegal aliens with a pathway to citizenship and ring the dinner bell for more to sneak across the border. We tried that in the 1980s, and look what happened.

Trapped:

They are here, so what do you propose we do, forcibly deport them? Now, no, I am not in favor of citizenship carte blanche, however, I would propose, and this is just a proposal, green card status as be a start, thus they are on the tax rolls like you and I are, and then if they abide by all the rules of law for a set period of time, lets say 10 years [or 15 or whatever defined period], then they can “Apply for citizenship”. If someone commits serious felonies then no citizenship and potential deportation, etc.

So you have a system that rewards the hardworking folks and provide incentives in the system to work towards citizenship.

We don’t need to reward anyone who sneaks across our borders in the middle of the night breaking every law imaginable.

Of course it would be politically incorrect to deport 10-20 million illegal aliens, although massive deportations have occurred in the past.

But you don’t roll out the red carpet and offer benefits and citizenship to law breakers. By making it clear to such law breakers that illegal immigration will not be rewarded, that jobs will not be provided, that taxpayer benefits will not go to illegals, many will self-deport-—another politically incorrect term-—Mitt Romney used in the campaign which no doubt cost him some votes-—but he was right. Don’t make illegal immigration advantageous and many will eventually leave. Of course we need aggressive border enforcement, an end to sanctuary cities, and crap like the Dream Act.

Without border security we have no nation. Illegal immigration is tantamount to chaos, anarchy, and lawlessness. It makes a mockery of our national sovreignty. I think it’s funny we talk about all of these international problems such as the Crimea and Ukraine, yet we cannot effectively police our own borders and protect our own national sovreignty. As a practicing Catholic, I am also annoyed that my Church continues to advocate such a lax policy towards illegal immigration. Here in California we overwhelmed with illegal immigration. Our infrastructure, public schools, roads, highways, prisons, jails-—you name it-—are overwhelmed by illegal aliens. Many neighborhoods have been turned to crap, gangbangers, drug dealers, graffiti all over the place, not to mention sky high teenage pregnancy rates, and school drop out rates among illegal immgrants. California has been turned to hell by illegal immigration and the rest of the nation isn’t far behind.

So what you are proposing is mass deportations of 10 million people and what if they will not go peacefully, the what. You are dodging the question. What do you mean politically incorrect, that is a dodge as well.

The question is what would you propose to do. I told you what I thought, what would you propose to do? Simple question.

During the last presidential campaign, Mitt Romney suggested that many illegal aliens could “self deport” causing an uproar and all of the usual politically correct bs.

What did he mean by getting illegals to self deport? Simple. You stop rolling out the red carpet for them. You enforce laws prohibiting employers from hiring them which can be done easily with the latest technology. You stop sanctuary cities which prohibit police depatments from turning over illegals to ICE. You build the dang fence and beef up border security. You do not reward illegals with tuition breaks at public universities. You deny illegals access to public services. You deny drivers licenses to illegal aliens. Want me to go on? There are millions of thing we can do to shut off the magnet of illegal immigration. NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD TOLERATES THIS INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! NONE!!!!!!

You have never stated what you would do get them to go back. Do you think self deportation would work. What if they don’t self deport. What would you do?

I agree hiring illegals is part of the problem but lets be honest, both parties are complicit in this Republicans see illegals as a source of “Cheap labor” to help profits of corporations and businesses, the shareholders and manager segment of the economy. Democrats see them as a another segment of that is tied to government programs and services, hence a stable supply of voters and another working class group to get into labor unions, etc. You had 12 years of Reagan Bush from 81 to 93 and 8 years of Bush 2 from 2001 to 2009 and none of the three did a damn thing about illegal immigration and neither did Clinton from 93 to 2001 or Obama. The reason, none of them want to for the reasons I said above.

As for as all the issues you mentioned, those are all done at the State level Tuition policy is a state issue, the largest sanctuary city in the US is in your home state of California. The Border, that is a federal issue I agree and yet again, how much have we done on border security going back to Reagan, seems about the same to me.

All those things you mentioned don’t get to the question I asked, what would you propose to do with the 10 Million illegals who are already here. Those policy initiatives you are talking about might help prevent future illegal immigration but what about those who are living here now.

If we were truly a nation of laws, the illegals would be deported promptly. Looking at the current political climate here in the US, that is very unlikely.

That doesn’t mean we should be rolling out the red carpet. We do not have to provide them with jobs, drivers licenses, free education, medical care and the like. No other nation does this. By denying illegals jobs and taxpayer benefits, sanctuary cities protections you turnoff the magnet and many will self deport.

And BTW——we did in fact pass a HUGE and COMPREHENSIVE immigration reform law in the 1980s-—called the Simpson-Mazzoli Act. Legalized millions of voters for the Democrat Party.

We did, and Ronald Reagan signed it as I alluded to earlier. And I agree, there needs to be change going forward but I don’t see anyone pushing for what you are suggesting. Nobody. Both parties use the “immigration issue” to rally political bases, I have long ago looked at Politics like I look at Toilet Tissue after I have used it. All of them are power hungry, Democrats and Republicans. I have tuned all of them out.
