So another thread comes to a shameful end.
My impression is that the other side (if there is one, or just one) generally does not give reason the respect it is given in Catholicism. One person would,, if backed into a logical corner, maintain her correctness on the grounds that I was reasoning “according to my own understanding” and according to God’s understanding which, you’ll be amazed to learn, was very like her own understanding.
That’s kind of an acute example. But one sees it all around these threads. We just have to pray we don’t fall into that sort of deification of one’s own intuition.
No apology required but thank you for sending one. See it has been my experience that generally speaking women in 'church' are considered subservient and not known for using the gray matter to consider and think. So it was a play on the thinking aspect that I picked this handle. It seems few recognize the 'emotional' side of the Heavenly Father, in spite of what He conveyed to us by His elected writers. It would probably shock some to read about the things the Heavenly Father 'hates'.
We who are commoners are not so common these days...everyone seems to want to be what they are not, and consider ‘common’ beneath them. I am reminded of a story, told as being true, about Queen Victoria. She would travel into the countryside and visit among the common people. One of those common people, a lady, talked to her heighbors endlessly about how important the Lord was to her. So on a particular day, Queen Victoria came to the villiage and picked this lady’s house. She knocked, was invited in, and was served tea by the lady. After the Queen left, the neighbors asked the lady who was the most important person she had ever entertained in her home. She answered, ‘The Queen, of course!’...the neighbors said, ‘Ah Ha, we have you now, she is more important to you that the Lord you keep telling us about.’ The lady, responded, ‘Oh, but He is not a visitor, He lives here!’ That is my idea of being in the world, but not of it.
Nice story. But it is a truth that Christ's should abide with us every day. Because without Him and the standard He set, it is all too easy to begin philosophizing with ourselves into everybody is doing it. Whatever it might be.
There are many Baalam’s out there today, ready to curse God, His Creation, His followers. We have horses here at our place who have more sense than these Baalam’s. My flesh father was a man of few words. So there was always lingering in my mind questions of the fullness of what he was saying. And it has been my discovery about myself that I too tend to get to the quick of the subject. Hence, I do not do philosophizing well. It brought a smile that you knew what farm animal I was referring in my prior response.
The sword of His mouth will smite the scorpion and will provide an antidote to the sting for those who repent.
Interesting is it not that the Heavenly Father would use the means and methods of surviving by one of His creatures to demonstrate the state of mind that would become prevalent in the last days.
Well, that sword of His mouth cuts from the 'right all away to the left. I have found nothing else that can bring me right down to reality and then give me the comfort to get up and keep trying.
As I read through this thread, it was indeed true that ‘love’ was absent. I was led to quote from Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13 to bring ‘love’ into the discussion. Again, thank you for your words, last night and now.
The usage of that word 'commoner' was loaded. I am from the old school that firmly believes that the Ten Commandments are still in effect. Christ became our 'rest', (Sabbath) and it is not difficult at all to discern when something else, object or person becomes the object of worship. The first five Commandments really are quite simple in what is required for any and all to demonstrate their love of the Creator. The second five tell us how to live in civility with the rest of creation.
I really appreciated your about you page. I think the reality of what 'tea party' represents got lost on the multitude.
