“Any time people come together to worship in His name, that is church.”

Since you’re quite skilled with scripture - can you cite where it says this?

I think it is evident from reading and understanding the New Testament.

When people get together to worship God, they also will pray and share scriptures.

If the occasion arises, they will baptize one who wishes to take that step.

If led by the Spirit of God, they can also partake of the Lords supper.

If the church is the body of Christ, why wouldn't people gathering to worship God be called "church."?

I realize there are those that don't believe it is "church" unless it is in a building with lots of rituals.

And fancy vestments.

And for some, believing that a priest becomes "another Jesus" and then goes through a ritual before serving communion

If you really want an understanding of what chruch entails, I would suggest that you read through the whole New Testament.

Even just reading parts of it each day it can take only 2 weeks.

Be sure to pray for the Holy Spirit to give you guidance for understanding the messages in the NT. (that is the key to understanding the Bible.)

The Old Testament is great reading too.

Using the same method it can be accomplished in about 6 weeks.

Thanks for your confirmation of my post!

Yes we should pray for those that do not know this, as well as pray for our fellow Christians.

—— Such ceremonies apparently weren’t fitting for Peter. Do you and fellow Catholics know something Jesus didn’t?-——

If Jesus returned today, would you treat Him royally, or scourge Him and crucify Him?

Is not Jesus The King? Is not Peter His earthly representative, in The King’s earthly absence? So why should Peter’s office not be honored?

Isaiah 22:22

I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

Matthew 16:19

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be [d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be [e] loosed in heaven.”

Revelation 3:7

These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

And while we are on the subject of biblical teaching, where is Luther’s doctrine of “the Bible alone” in Scripture?

No problem, apology accepted...it wasn’t that big of a thing anyway...but thank you.

Yes many fall away, you are absolutely correct!

Wide is the gate that leads to destruction and narrow is the gate that leads to God/salvation (quite paraphrased!)

Thanks for the link. An example of how rare this resignation is - the terms on the website all refer to things like “when the pope dies....”

From your post, that one sentence I hope to see someday in print about someone else’s early resignation;

“...after the president left the White House, both his apartments and private elevator were sealed.”

“I think it is evident from reading and understanding the New Testament”

So cite it. Which passage?

NO Catholic EVER said that Catholics are the only Christians!! That is silly....show me where ONE person said it.

If you are Baptized in Jesus's name, you are a CHRISTIAN!!

There is a solemnity in such rituals which adds gravitas. For many, not only is the ritual a comfort, but it creates an ambiance which emphasizes the solemnity and creates a sense of awe, of holiness, of something truly sacred.

Ritual, if followed, provides a traditional procedural framework and continuity from one generation to the next, a thread which binds the present to the past and future. There is solemnity in the sacrifice Jesus made for all of us (and joy that He made it), awe in the sheer majesty and power of our Creator, and the thread of ritual to connect the generations of the faithful (of all nationalities) who follow that for so long as they shall do so.

>I don’t have anything against the Catholic Church, they do a lot of good stuff. I am just sick and tired of the “one true church” crap.<

You don’t have anything against the Church? Then why did you find it necessary to ridicule and insult Catholics on an obviously Catholic thread? You could have just scrolled right past. That would have been the charitable thing to do.

You’re tired of all the one true church crap? We do not consider it crap, but if you don’t like what Catholics say then skip over obviously Catholic threads. That would be the adult way to handle it.

What I find rude is people who come on Catholic threads, ask suppposedly “innocent” questions, and then because they don’t really want to know the answer, argue with the person who answered and/or anyone else who defends the Church and Her teachings, and then proceed to use that opening to bash the Church, Her teachings, and all Catholics.

Sorry but it appears you are in error. viz According to Dolan, Catholics and guns don`t mix. [Some Americans are Catholic] Ain`t the ex-pope Catholic ?

It is hypocrisy for Dolan to agree with Cuominitsa and Obummer and yet want popes to be protected by Uzi`s- We have the same rights as the Pope to defend ourselves- If the POPE has Uzi`s we should too. We are all equal under the law and under God. Debate that ontological premise in your ear.

New York City, N.Y., Feb 20, 2013 / 02:00 am (CNA).- Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York highlighted President Barack Obama's “call for sensible steps on gun control,” noting that it is an area of agreement for the two leaders. “I found myself nodding in agreement when the President said, '...Overwhelming majorities of Americans – Americans who believe in the Second Amendment – have come together around common-sense reform, like background checks that will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun,'” the cardinal said.

In a Feb. 15 post on his blog, “The Gospel in the Digital Age,” he explained that he was “very much in favor” of legislation passed by New York last month that constituted “the most comprehensive gun control bill in the country.”

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/cardinal-dolan-finds-common-ground-with-obama-on-guns/

Imagine if Dolan is elected Pope- now we would have a gun-control pope protected by machine guns who would not allow his sheep the same to defend themselves against the tyrants he supports.

- This is the ultimate hypocrisy.
