Ping to post.
Ever make personal attacks, why yes you do.
Ever make broad ad hominem attacks, why yes you do.
Do you realize that Scripture was used as justification to torture and kill people. To beat pregnant women to death. To torture people to death unless they converted.
Literacy was limited because the Catholic church did not want people to have the knowledge. Made them easier to control.
All done by Catholics. So you might want to back off and find some grace before you meet Jesus and have to explain it to him.
“They have fabricated many different versions of their own and claim them instead.”
As opposed to having mass produced idols to worship. mm mmm mmm
The body of Christ, according to the apostle Peter, already considered much of what we today know as the New Testament as Holy Scripture—God breathed and infallible. The evidence of this is found in II Peter 3:15,16.
“15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvationas also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.”
Here, Peter includes Paul’s writing as scripture. Obviously, Peter’s writing is considered scripture. Mark wrote in the style of Peter and traveled with him, so it was understood that Mark was of the same weight as Peter’s epistles. Luke traveled with Paul and his writings were given the same weight as Mark’s. And Matthew wrote his gospel early. Hebrews appears to be written prior to the destruction of Jerusalem. So, by approx. 64 AD, when Peter penned the above words, it is clear that the body of Christ at the minimum, accepted approx. 21 of the N.T. books as scripture.
The Roman Catholic Church did not create the scripture. It simply ratified for its own use what was already in existence, already in use, and already considered Holy.
To say that the Roman Catholic Church canonized scripture would be like saying that the Roman Catholic Church held a council to canonize the fact that the sky is blue, water is wet, and grass is green.
While on the subject of councils, they are frequently justified by pointing to Acts 15. Isn’t it interesting that Peter (whom the Roman Catholic Church views as their first Pope) allowed James, the brother of Jesus, not an apostle, to be the final word on the matter? If Peter, perceived as RC Pope, was indeed that, was he in training at this point?
Also, by way of observation, the Judiazers were trying to bind a former command that was now, due to the new covenant, merely a tradition for Jewish Christians, onto the Gentiles. Again, an example of how man can feel right, by looking at tradition, and still be wrong, by looking at scripture.
For me, I have a direct link to God through scripture. For members of the Roman Catholic Church the link has been supplanted by the Pope and a tradition that has been named by the Roman Catholic Church the “Apostolic Tradition.” These two man created things have become more valuable than the simple Holy Words of God.
In order to prove me incorrect, more points will be made by looking at more Roman Catholic tradition, while I will continue to point to the Holy Words of God.
Again I am reminded of the book of Job.
I see that you are familiar with the history of the American colonies.
Literacy was limited because the Catholic church did not want people to have the knowledge. Made them easier to control.
You've made some rather boneheaded statements thus far, but this tops them all. I'd suggest that you revise your understanding of history and the reasons for literacy. As well as the entire true cost of literacy. I understand that many Evangelicals believe that it was the evil Catholic Church that imposed Internet controls on the population and stopped them from emailing the Epistles of Paul, and that it wasn't until the original Steve Jobs (Martin Luther) arrived on the scene that people were free to post antiCatholic Scripture on their Facebook accounts.
All done by Catholics. So you might want to back off and find some grace before you meet Jesus and have to explain it to him.
I thank you for your words of wisdom and will of course comply with your advocated course of action ...the day I get my brain replaced with a cauliflower.

I see you’re well acquainted with Satan. have a good day
That's why the Church unceasingly cautions against it.
If by that you mean that I contend against his minions regularly, then you would be correct. Thanks for the good wishes.
So you don’t even obey your own church let alone Gods law. Blasphemer
Now, now. We are sent by Jesus to evangelize the whole world. That includes the heretic, the apostate and the pagan. We would have all men believe in God and become Christian. Including even as yourself.
What was it that Jesus said? Oh yeah, get thee behind me Satan.
re: “seriously, Nevadan if you research what you think Catholics add like adhering to the sacraments, you will find this is what the Church has believed for 2,000 years.
For example, Peter in Acts 2:38 tells us to be baptized for the remission of sins and receiving the Holy Spirit. - was Peter adding the sacraments or is it possible the
sacraments are the means of grace established by God? Read the Church Fathers some time, you will be amazed at what the Church has believed for 2,000 years. Christianity did not start in the 16th century.”
Look, as I said the freeper who originally posted the article that started this thread - all this has accomplished is get Christian believers riled up at each other and say some pretty nasty things to one another - and for what??
These issues have been argued, and argued, and argued and no one is going to change their mind about these things with insults. I’m not saying you’ve done that, but I’m sure you’ve seen some who have (people on both sides of this issue).
I believe these issues are great discussion among believers, but on an open political forum like this where many non-Christians look on and see how we “Christians” talk with each other - what a lousy witness to them!
Come on, if I were to answer the points you brought up in your post - would you change your mind? I really don’t think so because you have come to your position after years of thought, prayer, tradition, and respect for your Catholic peers you’ve grown up with. It would take a long time for you to move from that position.
I meant no disrespect to Catholics in my response to isocool - I said what I said to him because that’s where he is on his thinking. But, this is part of my issue with this type of discussion on free republic. Just like when people bring up Romney’s mormonism. I don’t like Romney, I know Mormonism is a non-Christian cult, and my dislike for him is not based on my opinion of him as a person or on his religion - it’s based on my major disagreements with his politics.
But whenever a discussion comes up about Romney, some well-meaning Christians start flaming him for his religious views rather than on his politics.
Anyway, I didn’t mean to get on him, but I just saying that this thread has done nothing to promote the cause of Christ (at least in my opinion) and only caused further dissension among fellow believers - and, provided more ammo for non-Christians to claim we’re no different than anyone else and that we, in fact, give credence to those who say Christians are just as responible for wars and conflicts as anyone else. “After all”, they would say, “look how you talk to each other and “hate” each other.
Anyway, where Christ is truly preached by Christians to a lost world - I say God bless them no matter what their “label”. I think we’ll find when we get to Heaven that all Believers everywhere are part of His Church, the Universal Church made up of all believers. There won’t be a “Catholic” suburb in the New Jerusalem, or a “Baptist” suburb - we’ll all truly be One in Christ.
So, God bless you one Lord one faith one baptism. Let’ part friends, and, I pray you’ve had a wonderful Christmas season and that you and yours will have a Happy New Year.
Aww, diddums is so clever to remember a five word snippet of verse. Is diddums clever enough to understand what it means?
“now, which one is led by the Holy Spirit as it relates to infant baptism and which is being led by their own spirit?”
That is for G-d to determine. He can also decide if He wants to condemn either of them for their method of baptism.
“It a concept totally unknown to them...They teach that the Holy Spirit only communicates with their clergy...”
LOL, I know but it is fun to cause them to consider new thoughts.
very interesting, who did copy the 5,500 manuscripts?
“Baptism is an act of identification or association as used in the Greek and is also frequently associated with being fully washed.”
i hear statements like the above all the time, but there are two problems with it:
1. The Scriptures don’t teach this ( no verses are ever provided to support this )
2. no one believed this before the 16th century.
