In fact, IMO calling a priest "another Christ," for whatever concocted rational they come up with, is so startlingly pagan that it's amazing more of them don't see the danger in their path.

How any one could be even an elementary student of the scriptures and not see the tragic error in their thinking is beyond belief...

And many claim their knowledge comes from logic and reason...

By the will of God Christ works through the validly ordained priest, even if he is a sinner. If that were not so, then the faithful would never know for sure whether or not they had really received a Sacrament

And this is an example of the logic they use...

I'm guessing but it's probably because not one of your side has shown enough understanding of what it means to earn any credence for your denunciation of it.

It's not our fault you don't understand us. But there is also no obligation on us to believe someone who keeps saying stuff about us we know not to be true.

Maybe you're pretending to talk to us, but are really talking to the lurkers. In our theology pretending to do one thing while actually doing another is called "dishonesty." But there are lots of differences between us and maybe your theology permits that kind of dissimulation.

But as far as we're concerned, there is so little in what you say that touches what we actually teach, and so little sign that you really want to know what we teach that when you post articles like this, we just shake our heads.

It's so interesting to me to run across a bunch of people who just can't STAND it that we disagree with them.

They deny they bow when they’re not busy asserting that they bow. They’re offended we would say they bow except for the times when they’re boasting they bow.

And then they accuse us of not knowing what they really believe...LOLOL

I'm actually looking forward to it.

Apparently.

TOO TRUE FOR TOO MANY OF THEM, imho.

Then there’s that missing word in the rubber dictionary . . . “duplicity.”

"THE AMAZING GIFT OF THE PRIESTHOOD by Father Kenneth Baker"

Can you tell me why this article exists only in your posts and nowhere else? No other source of it can be found. Perhsps its authenticity is accepted by you only because it reinforces a view point that is both contrary to the Catechism of th Catholic Church and unflattering.

But then the author does indeed state, many in their church don't understand their own beliefs.

Likely many of them don't even know what is being taught...As here that I just posted

“The priest in the modern world,” he added, “is an extraordinary challenge because he does not announce himself (as God) but our Lord Jesus Christ, judge and savior of humanity.”

Clearly the 'as God' I inserted goes in there due to the context of the entire column...

I suspect most Catholics don't dig very deep into their own teaching...

lol. I posted a link by a Roman Catholic priest and his own words were enough to condemn him. They weren't difficult to understand...

"...Simply stated, the Catholic priest is another Christ. Through his ordination he has been granted the amazing gift of being a channel of divine grace for the eternal salvation of those he come into contact with — both in his official ministry and in his personal life..."

Contrary to your assertion of ignorance or duplicity, that sentence is clear. And we even understand why Roman Catholics believe it. They twist the language and logic and it all becomes a magick show. "Here we have A, B and C. But not really. We actually mean X, Y and Z. And of course you'll believe us because we are the final authority over your conscience, your faith and your lying eyes."

"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." -- James 1:8

As I said, those two sentences by Father Baker should send chills down the spine of any Christian who reads Scripture with ears to hear.

It’s all over the internet. And I didn’t post it on FR. A Roman Catholic posted it. Did you even go to the link I gave?

This is fascinating. You are not only denying this article's veracity, but you're saying I somehow have made it up?!?

You say this article is "unflattering" and "contrary" to the RCC catechism.

ROTFLOL.

You're actually questioning whether or not this is a legitimate article???

Maybe there's hope yet.

I'm sorry to gloat, but this makes staying up late on a Saturday night posting to a chat room all worthwhile.

For your peace of mind...and because we're such great FRiends, here's Father Baker's "unfalttering" and "contrary to the Catechism" article.

THE AMAZING GIFT OF THE PRIESTHOOD
by Father Kenneth Baker

Now if we find this FR thread suddenly pulled years after it was proudly posted by a prominent FR Roman Catholic (apparently Catholic Dossier finds it inconvenient) then we'll know too many strings have been revealed behind the puppet show.

And the curtain drops with a THUD.

Matthew 24:23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25Behold, I have told you before.

26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

As I mentioned prior, reading the reference material catholic posters offered, was such an eye opener. How can so many be so deceived? and for so long.

It makes one wonder if all these rites and traditions, long and seemingly endless written instructions were deliberate. The truth of what they are writing is so muddled between what appears to be Christian. Therefore, if one does dig deeper into that faith, and that for some time, they would soon present their arguements likewise. And if they preach that way it is no wonder the people don’t know.

That's a very interesting observation.

Long, convoluted arguments that contradict the simple truth of the Gospel tend to put people into a trance-like stupor. If people become convinced the Bible is too difficult to understand on their own, so much so that it makes them uncomfortable to even try to read and understand it, they will gratefully hand over their consciences and minds and faith to the "higher authority" of a bunch of old men who tell them they know best -- "Do this and be saved."

Yet Christ's instruction is much more succinct...

"Be not afraid; only believe." -- Mark 5:36

Well they had all the church services in Latin until recently, so no one knew what they were saying, and now I’ve read where they are going to reinstate the practice.

Now if we find this FR thread suddenly pulled years after it was proudly posted by a prominent FR Roman Catholic (apparently Catholic Dossier finds it inconvenient) then we'll know too many strings have been revealed behind the puppet show.

The only people who can pull threads are moderators. There is no reason for the thread you referenced to be pulled. It is paranoid to think that "strings {can be)revealed behind the puppet show." Nearly every FReeper who has visited or posted on the Religion Forum is aware of the acrimony on open threads, and most FReepers avoid them for that reason.

Perhaps instead of imputing motives to the Forum Moderators (especially the Religion Moderator) it would be more productive to learn from the better posters how to conduct oneself civilly when discussing OTHERs' beliefs.

But that may be too much to ask.

I personally consider this thread a classic, and will save it for future reference, and lots of laughs. I hope, sincerely, that it remains in the FR archives forever.
