Sure you don’t want a caucus designation on this?

Job 38
God Speaks Now to Job
1Then the LORD (A)answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
2”Who is this that (B)darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
3”Now (C)gird up your loins like a man,
And (D)I will ask you, and you instruct Me!
4”Where were you (E)when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding,
5Who set its (F)measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?
6”On what (G)were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7When the morning stars sang together
And all the (H)sons of God shouted for joy?
8”Or who (I)enclosed the sea with doors
When, bursting forth, it went out from the womb;
9When I made a cloud its garment
And thick darkness its swaddling band,
10And I (J)placed boundaries on it
And set a bolt and doors,
11And I said, ‘Thus far you shall come, but no farther;
And here shall your proud waves stop’?
God’s Mighty Power
12”Have you ever in your life commanded the morning,
And caused the dawn to know its place,
13That it might take hold of (K)the ends of the earth,
And (L)the wicked be shaken out of it?
14”It is changed like clay under the seal;
And they stand forth like a garment.
15”(M)From the wicked their light is withheld,
And the (N)uplifted arm is broken.
16”Have you entered into (O)the springs of the sea
Or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17”Have the gates of death been revealed to you,
Or have you seen the gates of (P)deep darkness?
18”Have you understood the expanse of (Q)the earth?
Tell Me, if you know all this.
19”Where is the way to the dwelling of light?
And darkness, where is its place,
20That you may take it to (R)its territory
And that you may discern the paths to its home?
21”You know, for (S)you were born then,
And the number of your days is great!
22”Have you entered the storehouses (T)of the snow,
Or have you seen the storehouses of the (U)hail,
23Which I have reserved for the time of distress,
For the day of war and battle?
24”Where is the way that (V)the light is divided,
Or the east wind scattered on the earth?
25”Who has cleft a channel for the flood,
Or a way for the thunderbolt,
26To bring (W)rain on a land without people,
On a desert without a man in it,
27To (X)satisfy the waste and desolate land
And to make the seeds of grass to sprout?
28”Has (Y)the rain a father?
Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
29”From whose womb has come the (Z)ice?
And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth?
30”Water becomes hard like stone,
And the surface of the deep is imprisoned.
31”Can you bind the chains of the (AA)Pleiades,
Or loose the cords of Orion?
32”Can you lead forth a constellation in its season,
And guide the Bear with her satellites?
33”Do you know the (AB)ordinances of the heavens,
Or fix their rule over the earth?
34”Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
So that an (AC)abundance of water will cover you?
35”Can you (AD)send forth lightnings that they may go
And say to you, ‘Here we are’?
36”Who has (AE)put wisdom in the innermost being
Or given (AF)understanding to the mind?
37”Who can count the clouds by wisdom,
Or (AG)tip the water jars of the heavens,
38When the dust hardens into a mass
And the clods stick together?
39”Can you hunt the (AH)prey for the lion,
Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
40When they (AI)crouch in their dens
And lie in wait in their lair?
41”Who prepares for (AJ)the raven its nourishment
When its young cry to God
And wander about without food?

This Religion Forum thread is labeled “Charismatic Caucus” meaning if you are not Charismatic, do not post here.

Could you please remove the "Catholic" topic tag from the thread then? (and perhaps the evangelical and protestant topic tags, as well) One must admit that it is a little aggravating to have one's confession listed as a "topic" and then to be blocked from discussion because it is somebody else's "caucus."

I am a charasmatic Catholic. I went to a charasmatic retreat years ago. Last year I went through an extreme dryness in prayer. Loss of hope and peace. I felt like one of the apostles in the upper room after Jesus was crucified. Many things were happening in my family. Illness, loss of jobs one thing right after another. There was and still is much uncertainty in my life. I finally realized there was something lacking in my spiritual life but did not know what it was. I started joining a prayer group which was charasmatic. I was prayed over and opened myself to The Holy Spirit trusting that He would give me what I needed and only what I needed. I realized I wasn’t using the gifts offered to me and I needed to trust. I don’t take the gifts of the Holy Spirit lightly. I have great respect for them.
We live in a time where we cannot rely on the world to lead us. There is so much going on in the spiritual realm that our minds and spirits cannot fully comprehend. We do have to be careful when we enter into the spiritual realm. I had fear of it because I know evil exists and tries to counterfeit God. I know satan is a deceiver, a liar, and a thief. I’ve heard demons flee, screeching as deliverance prayers were said at a healing service. The screeching faded away as the prayers ended. Do I put my attention on that? No... I place it on the power of God. So I remain in fasting, prayer and the sacraments. It keeps me close to Jesus. It helps me to discern and remain hopeful.
The Holy Spirit will renew the face of the earth. Just as the apostles in the upper room were transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit we must be also transformed. We need all that the Holy Spirit has to offer us. We live in dangerous times and we must arm ourselves spiritually.

For me the gifts are to witness of Jesus. Prophecy...I don’t think it’s hard to see what is going on in the world today in the physical realm and be able to speak with wisdom about it. We know what direction we are going in. Even unbelievers can figure that out.

You put me in a bad position here. You have directed a comment to me without prompting, yet I am not allowed to answer it due to the caucus rules. If you wish to ask that question in a standalone thread, I will be happy to answer it, but I am constrained from doing so here.

God tells us in Jeremiah 1 to speak his words and not to fear the people or he will place his fear upon us , so thank you for the encouragement for the resistance from the spirit of the air is great !

A wonderful song in times of distress.
Where does it point? To Christ of course.

John 6

35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 36But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Dear markomalley, prayerfullywaiting and Religion Moderator,

This brings up an interesting point about which I've been thinking for a few weeks.

Many of the caucus labels used here in the Religion Forum do a pretty good job of excluding who should be excluded and including who should be included. There aren't many Catholic calvinists, nor many calvinist Catholics, so those two labels do a good job of sorting folks out as needed. The labels sort folks theologically in the desired way.

But I'm not sure that “charismatic” as a label works quite as well. The fact is that the charismatic movement can be found through nearly the entire range of Christian and even near-Christian or Christian-heritage theologies.

Personally, I was very active in the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church for a long time. I attended charismatic prayer meetings often as many as three times a week for many years, where folks spoke in tongues, folks gave prophecies, folks performed healings. I was actually a prayer meeting leader for some years, I prayed over folks by laying on hands for the “baptism in the Holy Spirit.” I've been to any number of charismatic events, including the annual youth conference in Steubenville.

I met my wife of over 26 years at a charismatic prayer meeting. For many years, she too was active in the renewal.

I am no longer active in the Renewal, but I'm more like a Catholic who doesn't go to Mass on Sundays rather than someone who was once Catholic and now repudiates Catholic faith.

There is no necessary contradiction between being a Catholic and belonging to the Charismatic Renewal. Catholics may participate in the renewal, may participate in the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit, and this has been formally permitted since at least the papacy of Pope Paul VI. Pope John Paul II was a reasonably enthusiastic supporter of the renewal.

Yet, some of the posters here who claim to be charismatic are certainly also virulently anti-Catholic.

So, what is my status in a thread like this?

The problem runs a bit deeper than even this.

The fact is that I've read about charismatic/pentecostal groups in just about every sort of theological group that you can imagine. There are, of course, pentecostals. Many of these are oneness pentecostals that don't even believe in the Trinity. I've read about / heard about Episcopal charismatics, Methodist charismatics, even Baptist charismatics (although I've seen a lot of controversy regarding Baptist charismatics). Heck, I've even heard of UNITARIAN charismatics!

The problem is that the label “charismatic” may not work either because it doesn't really narrow things down theologically or because it may be used in a way that is much narrower (in order to actually narrow down theologically) than the word really means.
