Does this apply to weddings. I went to a Catholic wedding this past April (we did not get a Homily because there was a roadrace that went by the church so some people like the groom could not get to the church in time). But we were all invited to take communion if we were believers. It was kind of confussing to us protestents since man gave you the bread and another man held the cup and we were supposed to drink from the cup. I go to a Presbyterian church where we grab a piece of bread and sip it in a cup and partake the bread and walk back to our seat.

This thread shows a lot of ignorance on the part of Catholics if they think that Protestants don’t have communion. We do on a regular basis but not every sunday.

Well .. I hate to break it to people .. but if you have received Jesus as your Savior, it more than qualifies you to take communion - IN ANY CHURCH.

I think a visitor should respect the wishes of a “closed communion” church.

It is rude to demand to receive the Lord’s supper in a church you don’t belong to.

Not having read the responses I am sure there is a lot of back and forth on doctrine.

My question is a simple one. Why do they serve communion to Ted Kennedy or John Kerry and their clear apostate friends, and yet not offer it to a believing Protestant?

If you are a Christian and your heart is right before Christ you can take communion wherever you please...its between you and Christ not what some church says.

Pro 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

Pro 6:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Pro 6:18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Pro 6:19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

1 Corinthians 11: 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Verse 29 use the word diakrinoon which means to discern to be reflective it does not mean as you have tried to twist into recognize that the bread and the wine is the body and blood of Christ.

Thanks. Your first verse is the one I always think of in Corinthians.

Take it from a Protestant who has been married to a Catholic for nearly 25 years. They lost me when our Priest at the time called the Reformation a “Treasonous Scandal of Blasphemy”

Protestants receive communion in remembrance of what Christ did on the cross; Catholics receive communion to get salvation.

This is the great divide between the two religions.

This verse is not denominational specific. The subject is WHOEVER. And one of the most important scriptures to me is the two part action that took place when Christ gave up the breath on that Cross. That miracle of that veil in the Holy of the Holies was rent from TOP to bottom.... NO longer was there the requirement for any who would believe to have to go through a flesh man to have 'communion' with the Heavenly Father. Christ became that one on one intermediary.

How often did Christ take communion? Is the number of times one takes it gives one a higher reward?
