But I AM a VERY manly man (They scrape sweat off of me and distill it for the testosterone), so of course, I HAVE to say, "You're both full of it."
(But I will add, may we all be filled with reconciling love.)
At Christmas, I haven't been able to get through this:
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The cross be borne for me, for you.
Lent: O Dearest Jesus, What Law Hast Thou Broken?
Whence come these sorrows, whence this mortal anguish? It is my sins for which Thou, Lord, must languish Yea, all the wrath, the woe, Thou dost inherit, This I do merit!
What punishment so strange is suffered yonder! The Shepherd dies for sheep that loved to wander; The Master pays the debt His servants owe Him, Who would not know Him.
The sinless Son of God must die in sadness; The sinful child of man may live in gladness; Man forfeited his life and is acquitted, -- God is committed.
Easter: Jesus Christ is risen today
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia! unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia! who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia! sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

Had to double post.
I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that your post is based in ignorance, rather than malice. Since this thread is about the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and it’s Confession, I’ll quote Chapter 25, Paragraph 6 of its Confession, in full:
“6. There is no other head of the church but the Lord Jesus Christ. Nor can the pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof.”
Doesn’t quite match your post, does it?
That wasn’t the original version, though, was it?
That’s why I posted links to the historical version, the OPC version, which is being discussed here, and the PCA version for a slightly different view.
There are some RC posters who are known for trying to sidetrack a discussion and start a flame war. I usually try to ignore them, but sometimes can’t bring myself to do so. Then there are the ones who walk around with very large chips on their shoulders. Finally there are many RC posters with whom one can have intelligent discussion.
When did the current version come into use?
Hmmmm. That's quite a poser. Let's look at the title of this thread:
Confession and Catechisms [introduction to the Westminster Confession of Faith]
The title DOES mention the WCF, but does not mention the OPC's confession.
I quoted the WCF. If you don't like it, fix the title.
Again, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps you have an eye problem - have you had your vision checked lately?

Or, perhaps you had difficulty reading the article itself.
“The last sentence of chapter 22.3, which forbade the refusing of a proper oath when imposed by lawful authority, was removed. Chapter 25.6, on the head of the church, was rewritten, and the identification of the Roman Catholic pope as the Antichrist was removed. Chapter 34 (”Of the Holy Spirit”) was added. Chapter 35 (”Of the Love of God and Missions”) was also added. A “Declaratory Statement” explaining chapters 3 and 10.3 (on election and salvation) was appended.”
“The Committee recommended that the change in chapter 22.3 and the removal of the reference to the pope as the Antichrist (but not the other changes) in chapter 25.6 be retained.”
Indeed, anyone who bothered to read the article would know that the first 4 paragraphs deal with the history changes prior to the formation of the OPC as they impacted that denomination, the remaining 12 deal exclusively with the OPC.
Perhaps you should ask your wife to read the articles to you if you have problems getting past the headline.
As I edit this post, there is a box below my composing window which says:
In the Religion forum, on a thread titled Confession and Catechisms [introduction to the Westminster Confession of Faith], PAR35 wrote:
I think you're very angry that I posted that quote on this thread, but you have to face facts: I posted precisely what I said I posted, which is a quote from the Confession named in the title.
The title promises an introduction to the WCF, I provide one.
Leave my wife out of it.
Per paragraph 4 above, 1903 for the Presbyterian Church USA (which is one of three major components in the current PCUSA). The OPC (which is the subject of this article), the PCA, and the EPC never used a version referring to the Pope as the Antichrist. I’d have to research to see the history as to some of the other groups.
Please be advised, I don’t take orders from you.
You’re reserving the right to drag my wife into your tantrums?
You don’t want to do that.
Are you threatening me? Am I supposed to be scared of you now?
Discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.
THANK you.
More than once the Westminister Confession has been cited in posts on this forum, and those quotes retained the charge that the Pope was the Anti-Christ. Nor was that charge denied or repudiated by the person who offered that selection of the WCF.
This thread is about how that the OPC has deleted that provision from the WCF. I would have expected most RCs to have thought that was a good move, rather than trying to tar the OPC with words to which it never subscribed.
But I guess that wouldn’t have been as fun.
