***Then you need to take him off the crucifixes and the crosses you have on the walls of some of your churches.***
Isn’t it odd when the Reformed description of Christianity is “Christ crucified”, but the children of the Reformation object to Him on the cross.
We are not afraid to witness to the infinite degradation and humiliation that He went through to redeem all mankind.
***There werent any Catholics in the first century***
“Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Smyrneans, written on the way to his martyrdom at Rome AD 107.
I guess AD 107 is technically in the second century, but it’s close enough to the end of the first century to disprove your point.
Avis - we try harder.
I suppose that selected elected elite already have a seat on the limousine to eternal salvation so that they don’t have to try at all.
Attempts at humour which are imperceptably different from non humour need a little more Avis effort.
***The people that read and believe my bible, the Authorized Version, know that it originated in Antioch, where followers were first called Christians...The area of the world where the Apostles hung out...***
We really do live in different worlds.
The King James was primarily a re-translation of the Bishop’s Bible, with some scrutiny paid to Geneva, Matthews, Coverdale and Tyndale. Some Hebrew and Greek manuscripts were also brought in.
Your man-made translations are just that. Nobody on the King James team claimed any inspiration of the Holy Spirit, by the way.
***If one takes an interest, he/she can find Abel in the book of Genesis, the first book of the Protestant bible...Zacharias will be found in II Chronicles which is the LAST BOOK OF THE JEWISH BIBLE...***
The Jewish Council of Jamnia, irritated at the encroachment of the Christians determined a new version of the OT approximately 60 years after Christ died and was resurrected.
Our OT is derived in part from the Septuagint which had all the proper verse.
***There is no evidence that the Septuatgint WAS NOT invented by Origen, or more probably Eusibius centuries later...***
Then they must have been really long lived since it was written 2 centuries before Christ.
I posted just previously on the construction of the KJV - essentially a re translation of the Bishop’s Bible, with scrutiny to those other sources you mentioned, along with some input from Latin and Greek manuscripts.
***I guess crickets like the evening services. They’re night owls, so to speak. Hopping night owls.***
I’m not sure why certain denominations religiously adhere to Wednesday night activities. I haven’t noticed that Wednesdays are of particular importance in Scripture.
We are well aware of what he suffered on the cross for us, but he rose again and is at the right hand of God. Time to take Him off the cross and onto the Throne.
But most of you DO claim that the Roman Catholic Church is the ONE true church. You can’t deny that, Mark. We are all members of the Body of Christ universal, not the Roman Catholics only.
I’m not offended, Mark. I know it wasn’t directed at me. It’s just that the mods don’t like it when we go after each other in a personal way.
It has nothing to do with that. This isn’t prayer and showing off in front of anyone to get attention. This is standing in awe of Him, singing, raising our hands in surrender to His awesome presence. It has nothing to do with what you are talking about. People in our church can worship any way they like Many do not raise their hands but sit or stand quietly, most singing, many don’t. It’s an individual thing, not anything forced. We started out as a Baptist church so it’s not a wildly charismatic church (I wish it were-lol) but very balanced. We have a good balance between the Word, praise, prayer, intercession, works, etc.
It’s a heart issue, I think. If you go in with a closed mind and don’t enter in, you will not understand the joy I get from singing to Him. Sometimes you can really feel His presence. Sometimes you can’t. For me, it depends on how I’m doing that week. If I’m down, or disappointed, or angry, I can’t enter in. Of course I can’t speak for you or anyone else. With a Catholic background and teachings, I know it’s hard to understand us. I know that. We still have ex-Catholics who find it difficult.
In central NY, particularly the Syracuse area. It’s been in the papers and on TV a lot lately.
Well, I hopped from church to church myself but I’ve been in this one for 25 years because this is where God wanted me. It is also the Church of Jesus Christ. Wherever true believers gather, it’s His church, His Body.
Sorry. I’m old and sometimes late at night my eyes get blurry. Then I know it’s time to shut this thing down. LOL.
Well, I’m not a Calvinist so I’m not hard and fast on the elected select elite stuff. I’m born again and believe we can be saved through faith in Him. I asked Him to come into my life almost 39 years ago, when I was around my 30th birthday. It’s been one heck of a ride. I’ve had to repent of a lot of stuff but I know I’ve been forgiven. I still have to repent of things I do every day that don’t please Him but I’m still in His grace. I was very angry, sometimes hateful because of the alcoholism in my marriage. It took a long time to work through that and sometimes it still rears its ugly head, but throughout it all, He has brought me through sickness and suffering, divorce, surgeries, deaths of loved ones, disappointments with my children and their trials and tribulations, and a whole lot of other stuff.
God’s grace is always with you when you have Christ in your life. You don’t have to wonder if you’ll make it to heaven.
But we aren’t separated, Mark. As the universal Body of Christ, each one of us is joined to the rest of the Body. Just not to the Roman Catholic Church.
What do you recommend?
Well, titanites, I haven’t closed the door. Each year I live I grow closer to Him and to what He’s called me to be.
