haven’t darkened the doors of a baptist church in thirty years.

Well, it's good to read that you admit you did darkened their doors - in that case, it's good you left and haven't darkened any more. Since doors burn and your soul lives forever, thinking more about a darkened soul, IMO, is where the value is. Giving up Christianity - as you state - 30 years ago was your choice. If you're content on the surface w/your choice, so be it.

When I enter or leave a place of value, it is never darkened.

Things are getting a little too truthful on the thread...the censoring will begin soon.

Allow me to demonstrate what it would be like if I were to attack, say, the Calvinists like the anti-Mormons attack the Mormons.

***RIDICULOUS IMITATION - NOT SERIOUS DISCUSSION***

Ol’ Johnny Calvin. You know, we could learn a lot from him. Like how to hoodwink generations of good people into believing lies and heresies. He certainly was not a Christian leader - he rebelled against Orthodoxy. How can you be a real Christian when you preach such unorthodox positions as his? Total depravity? Unconditional election? Limited atonement? Irresistible grace? Hogwash! And look how many people have followed ol’ Johnny into the pit of Hell thanks to his evil heresies. Look how many cults and liars have been formed in his wake. Look how many people have been led away from Christ as they rejected Orthodoxy! What a shame! What a tragedy!

I, for one, will fight the evil Johnny spawned wherever I see it. For I am a real Christian.

There’s historical evidence to prove - beyond doubt - that Calvin was just a grifter. He was a fraud. He had sex with women in his life. He committed crimes against the state.

How can anyone ever follow such a Satanic deceiver? Anyone who does is a blind cultist, ignorant of Holy Scripture, and devoid of the Holy Spirit. I pity them. So, I will mock and ridicule these people and their sacred beliefs and revered leaders until they agree with me.

***END RIDICULOUS IMITATION***

That is an “attack.” When I say that I think Mormonism is right and your faith is wrong, that is what we call a “disagreement.”

Are you beginning to comprehend the difference?

Mormonism endures waves of attacks, relentlessly. Don’t get me wrong, I glory in it. We’re getting stronger from it all the time.

Now, if you don’t engage in the kinds of despicable tactics which I’ve demonstrated, then I have overgeneralized and made false assumptions about you, and I apologize. I would then extend an invitation to you to try and influence your Christian friends to behave like they are followers of He whom they claim to represent.

Re: title of thread
In order to destroy something, wouldn’t it have to be there first? Why point blame at anyone/thing for destroying something that was never there. Do mormon’s consider themselves victims? Is that how they want to gain credibility?

1 Corinthians 1:23-24: “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”

Romans 3:23: “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Colossians 2:13-14: “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”

John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.”

John 3:3: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Acts 16:31: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.”

Romans 10:9: “..If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.”

No, Nim. You are either acting dense by nature or on purpose. I don’t pretend to know which.

Either way, I’m bored with trying to explain it to you. Go reread the discussion, I’m sure you’ll get it eventually.

You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble by:

1 - apologizing for making false claims about me, and
2 - apologizing for ATTACKING my faith with false claims of multiple heresies.

That you didn’t speaks volumes about you.

~”Especially since the Holy Writ specifically warns us against additions such as thos penned by Smith?”~

Yes... the last book of the Bible... Which was written before at least one other book of the Bible.. Which was compiled hundreds of years later, and did not exist when the last book was written...

Come, now, Narses, that’s the argument of a neophyte. You cannot have studied these things and think that John was referring to anything outside of Revelation when he wrote that passage.

You know, the scriptures make a lot more sense in context.

“No, Nim. You are either acting dense by nature or on purpose. I don’t pretend to know which.”

You should know that personal attacks such as that one I quote above are forbidden by the rules of this site and common courtesy.

“Either way, I’m bored with trying to explain it to you. Go reread the discussion, I’m sure you’ll get it eventually.”

I’ve read the discussion, Nic is correct in interpreting the plain english of your claims. You respond with personal attacks. You define yourself with such actions.

You are either acting dense by nature or on purpose. I don’t pretend to know which.

You are adding onto what is required for salvation. You are saying, and have said, accepting the FULL gospel (as you proffered) would REQUIRE accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet. And unless Joseph Smith is accepting as a TRUE prophet, then, according to you, salvation cannot be had. This takes away not only from the perfection of Christ and His work, but adds onto the Gospel of Christ, which contradicts the admonitions of Scripture.

Exactly right. Call all you want. I stand by it.

- Acceptance of the Gospel is required for salvation.

- Smith was the prophet through whom the Gospel was restored.

THEREFORE IT FOLLOWS THAT:
- Acceptance of Smith is required for salvation.

Why is this so difficult for so many of you to understand?

Oh, and feel free to take this post, partially quote it, and take it out of context, too. As if I could stop you.

Umm... I did. Last paragragh, #404.

You could have save yourself a [little] trouble by:

1 - reading my post carefully before responding to it

That you didn’t speaks volumes about you.

Oh, and, by the way, that apology extends only to the false claims part.

I stand by the heresies thing. Wouldn’t be much of a point in a “Restored Gospel” otherwise, would there?

Why is this so difficult for so many of you to understand?

The above CONTRADICTS SCRIPTURE! It is blasphemy, besides. You are making BELIEF IN Joseph Smith as REQUIREMENT of salvation, negating the power and Person of Christ, His blood, and His atonement.

I do know that. A statement of fact is not a personal attack, my friend. The pretend not to understand clear explanation is to pretend thickness.

I suggest you stop seeking reasons to take insult.

A belief found NO WHERE in Christendom. It is sort of similar to the Islamic shahadah though.
