Of course the Book of Life has only names. All men have their works judged - those whose names are in the Book of Life get rewards in heaven according to their works of righteousness. Those whose names are not therein recorded get punishment in hell according to their works of evil. The Lord holds people responsible for what they know - great judgment upon those with greater knowledge of Truth.
******When you hear them say, there is no bible without the Romanist Church,***
I challenge you to present a single post that says this. One, just one. Go ahead, prove our day.
= = = =
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, I wonder if the RC edifice reps would be willing to own by how many nanometers they missed such a statement by?***
Prove it, sir. Or step aside.
The RC Edifice is really getting annoying and is rather grating. I almost prefer Romanists and Papists. Can we start inventing pejoratives for our separated brethren, since apparently they can?
One of the reasons I rarely cut and paste Scripture. The other reason is I'm pretty sure numbering verses was a brilliant tool of the devil since it makes prooftexting sans context so easy; nothing like using random verses to club ones foe.
***Thankfully, such has NOT been Gods perspective,***
Isn’t it wonderful that you’ve acquired the Reformed ability to speak for God?
You are too kind. For that snippet, we have a reformed former Roman Catholic to thank - Lots of excellent research here that causes the RCC “guard dogs” to choke: http://www.catholicconcerns.com/index.html#Home
It’s getting a little wierd.
It feels like I’m watching an episode of “Intervention”.
Your past and current lives are no doubt fascinating, MD, but let's all try to stick to discussing the thread at hand.
Otherwise we're liable to go off on all sorts of nonsensical tangents.
I am told that a priest at the end of a long career of parish ministry was asked what he had learned for hearing so many confessions, and he said, "few people are happy and even fewer ever grow up."
I don't find that to be the case in my Presbyterian church. We're quite a happy bunch, by the grace of God.
And guys like Quix and blue-duncan and Manfred and the_conscience and wmfights and wileypink and scubienuc and forstkeeper and harleyd and ftd and 1000S and Lord-Calvinus and Gamecock all give every indication of being likewise contented and productive and happy by and for and through the merciful faith in Jesus Christ that God has blessed them with.
That's the way it's supposed to work.
Hey Bro. we are in the best company!
Luke 6:22 Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake.
We know what we need to do.
Matt. 6:44 But I say to you love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
The best way I know to do this is to proclaim THE GOSPEL.
Freaky. 8~)
***The Catholic Church began at Pentecost;
That is sooooooooooooo outrageously untrue as to almost be well . . . is . . . galactic Olympic level outrageousness. It’s untrue to History and Untrue to Scripture.***
Actually, it is true. The Bible attests to it. You may wish to read it.
***God has been well able to build HIS CHURCH just as he was well able to lead Samuel Morris through the jungle to a mission compound without any aid of any human at all.***
So, an aboriginal wandering through the jungle is proof that the church of Quix is valid and real?
***Actually, God has required me to speak for Him on occasion***
Neat. You wouldn’t be willing to share the teleprompter lines, would you?
***I’m well acquainted with Acts 8. Sometimes God uses others.***
You wouldn’t be willing to share your Divine instructions would you?
***One time, against my better judgment, I agreed to see an alcoholic woman at a Baptist counseling center late in the evening. Turned out she was drunk—further violating a boundary I had. Suddenly, I listened to words flowing out of my mouth ordering her to sober up instantly. She was virtually falling down drunk. It’s a wonder she could walk at all. Yet, amazingly, she INSTANTLY sobered up and the session was fruitful.***
Words flowing out of your mouth at a drunk? You’re not channeling John Belushi are you?
***You may not not his story***
Well, if it’s all the same to you, I really don’t not his story. Or yours. I’m not sure what God you are worshiping, but it doesn’t seem that you are even close to the Christian one.
Is that some bait or WHAT?
What would follow if I were to be suckered by the attack on my recall would be that I would spend a long time finding the relevant posts - affirming the need to control. ("I can make him spend time slogging through posts.") Then I would post the relevant quotes and either be chastised for dragging in something from another thread or be met with a preposterous interpretation of the remark.
Soon we will get some sort of hands-in-the-pocket-and whistling denial of anxiety and further expression of contempt for our observations.
Note how the symptomatic folks are clustering together.
***Without the Church, people are as the eunuch. They can read the words, but not understand them.
I don’t have your church, and I understand the words of Scripture just fine. In fact, a lot better than many RCs apparently.***
With all due respect, you don’t appear to. I do not discern any evidence of the Holy Spirit. I do not discern any understanding of Scripture. I do not believe that you are possessed of anything other than what casual passersby would discern of Scripture. I see no evidence of it.
The eunuch parable stands. I do not see you approaching the Church for clarification and teaching.
GREAT POST! Thanks.
***That’s why I am not a member of the RCC which practices idolatry, shamanism, mysticism and inherent contradiction.***
If you say that you are not a member of the Catholic Church who does not practice those heathen deeds, then I am one with you.
If you accuse the Catholic Church of practicing those things, then I oppose you.
What have you read from these gentlemen, many of whom were burned at the stake or murdered in their sleep simply for reading the Bible?
Ah, yes, the classic error of Luther: believing your own salvation into existence. It's the direct ancestor of the "Word of Faith" foolishness which claims you can believe your way to every sort of worldly prosperity. (Clearly, if a gold Cadillac does not appear in your driveway, it merely means that your faith is not strong enough!)
You aren't saved by believing that Christ saved you, Dr. E. Sorry. Jesus saves, he sovereignly chooses whom he will save, period, full stop. Your beliefs about Jesus don't earn you your free ticket into heaven any more than keeping the Mosaic law will.
How can you guys claim to believe in Scripture and yet totally, utterly, completely, profoundly miss the whole point of Matthew 7:21-23?
Hell will have plenty of residents who thought they were infallibly saved by really, really, really firmly believing that Jesus saved them, and who lived like demons nevertheless. "Depart from me, you evildoers, I never knew you!"
Certainly.
“I would not believe in the Gospel myself if the authority of the Catholic Church did not influence me to do so.”
Against the letter of Mani, 5,6, 397 A.D.
This Church is Holy, the One Church, the True Church, the Catholic Church, fighting as she does against all heresies. She can fight, but she cannot be beaten. All heresies are expelled from her, like the useless loppings pruned from a vine. She remains fixed in her root, in her vine, in her love. The gates of hell shall not conquer her.”
Sermon to Catechumens, on the Creed, 6,14, 395 A.D.
“We must hold to the Christian religion and to communication in her Church which is Catholic, and which is called Catholic not only by her members but even by all her enemies. For when heretics or the adherents of schisms talk about her, not among themselves but with strangers, willy-nilly they call her nothing else but Catholic. For they would not be understood unless they distinguish her by this name which the whole world employs in her regard.”
The True Religion, 7,12, 397 A.D.
“By the same word, by the same Sacrament you were born, but you will not come to the same inheritance of eternal life, unless you return to the Catholic Church.”
Sermons, 3, 391 A.D.
“What the soul is to man’s body, the Holy Spirit is to the Body of Christ, which is the Church. The Holy Spirit does in the whole Church what the soul does in all members of one body. But see what you must beware of, see what you must take note of, see what you must fear. It happens that in the human body, or rather, off the body, some member, whether hand, finger, or foot, may be cut away. And if a member be cut off, does the soul go with it? When the member was in the body, it lived; and off, its life is lost. So too, a Christian man is Catholic while he lives in the body; cut off, he is made a heretic; the Spirit does not follow an amputated member.”
Sermons, 267, 4, 391-430 A.D.
“The Catholic Church is the work of Divine Providence, achieved through the prophecies of the prophets, through the Incarnation and the teaching of Christ, through the journeys of the Apostles, through the suffering, the crosses, the blood and the death of the martyrs, through the admirable lives of the saints. When, then, we see so much help on God’s part, so much progress and so much fruit, shall we hesitate to bury ourselves in the bosom of that Church? For starting from the Apostolic Chair down through successions of bishops, even unto the open confession of all mankind, it has possessed the crown of teaching authority.”
The Advantage of Believing, 391 A.D.

You understand, Dr. E. that a demonic ploy to overthrown the Catholic Church cannot win? The Lord has promised us that. You may wish to reconsider.
