I can understand how odd some Marian devotions can seem to the evangelical eye, but my point is that it seems odd to me that Protestants can treat the Mother of Jesus, the “Mother of my Lord” with cold indifference.
As far as “Lepanto” is concerned, Chesterton is referring to the sometimes boiling, sometimes icey hatred that the generation of Calvin had for the Catholic Church and all things Catholic. “Lepanto” came in 1571 just as the pope had abandoned all hope for reclaiming England for the Church and was faced by a France roiled by
a rebellious Calvinism at the same time that the Sultan’s fleets were advancing on Italy. That famous Christian victory came on October 7, and it prevented a Turkish invasion of Italy. Given the indifference of most of Europe to the Turkish advances, because both England and France were hostile to
Spain, which with the papal froces was with Venice were the main parts of the Christian fleets,
Protestantism AND Catholicism, etc. aren’t the True Church of Christ. The BODY of Christ, the believers, are the true church. Christ indwells us and we are HIS CHURCH. No denomination, no elite group, just His Body.
I sure HOPE you aren’t perfect, Quix. How boring is that?
My personal prayer this week has been that I would decrease and Christ would increase.
Isn't this a great picture? Look at the baby's face. So sweet, so innocent.
Thanks for the post #289.
You hate the Church, therefore you hate Mary—to the extent of denying the import of the nativity narratives, especially Luke’s.

What’s this wail about Proty’s lying/deliberately misconstruing about RC beliefs then railing at something not true?
The above statement of yours is grossly false.
1. I do not hate the RC denomination.
2. I do not hate Mary.
3. I do not deny whatever Scriptural import there is in the Gospel narratives of the Nativity.
I do hate the mangling of Biblical, Christian principles that an out of balance, UnBiblical focus on, emphasis of, hightened adoration and elevation of Mary has wrought.
Usurping any percent of that which is due Christ is, imho, a blasphemous abomination. Mary herself, if she is aware of such, must be outraged.
The testimony of scripture certainly appears to be otherwise. It is MORE viable to read the passages about Joseph and Mary uniting after Jesus’ birth and about Jesus having brothers and sisters simply as they are written.

INDEED, INDEED! AMEN!
“COULD MEAN?”
So, RC’s are now entertaining new doctrines and dogma
based on
what various Scriptures might possibly mean?
Batten down the hatches . . . we ain’t seen nothin’ yet, folks.
Get on the hipwaders! It’s getting deeper and deeper! LOL.
Sigh.
All such postulations, assertions, declarations are bold faced lies re me, as far as I’m concerned—at best brazen misconstructions on reality.
I have no trouble viewing the church as a hospital for sinners.
Doesn’t change the horrors of idolatrous teachings & practices in Proty or RC circles.
Maybe I’m just too tired to wrap my mind around this one.
I certainly don’t recall any of the narratives about Heavenly visits talking about any of the graduated saints having prayer meetings in Heaven for those still on earth. They are entirely occupied with other tasks and foci.
As far as my home goes and those residing here . . .
UTTER HOGWASH.
Not cold indifference . . .
God has priorities for us . . . time and energy are limited . . .
Christ Himself gave Mary to John. There’s no evidence the rest of the Disciples/Apostles made yearly pilgramages to Mary,
kissed her toes every time they were in Jerusalem;
Sang hymns of adoration to her every odd numbered Sunday;
Bought her gilded fur coats every Christmas;
Sent her faithful emails every evening as part of their evening devotions;
Rang her up on the phone at least weekly;
. . . bothered much about her AT ALL.
God had other priorities for THEM, too.
Sheesh!
Sure would appreciate quite a bit more in that direction, though.
But then my notion of perfection is not a boring one.
LOL.
No matter how much veneration and honor we give to Mary,it will always pale in comparison to the honor given to Mary by Jesus. Mary is His Greatest created creature.
Thus whatever honor we give to Mary is honor given to God the creator
Saint Louis De Montfort expresses this beautifully when he says....
God the Father is glorified because we are honoring the most perfect of his creatures
God the son is glorified because we are praising his most pure Mother
God the Holy Spirit is glorified because we our lost in admiration of the graces to which he has filled Her
Therefore when we Honor Mary ,God is Glorified
I wish you a Blessed Evening
Mary is His Greatest created creature.

Not a SHRED of Scripture even HINTS at this.
Doctrine-out-of-whole-cloth-ism
is not an impressive RELIGION.
Who else is in the Bible is called anything close to Kecharitomene in Luke 1:28?

I don’t think reason will scratch your dogma about Mary in the slightest. Only a startling revelation from Holy Spirit will alter your construction on Mary at all.
The 12 Patriarchs and the 12 Disciples have thrones in Heaven.
There’s no hint in any Scripture of Mary slated to have any throne any other Believer will not have equal thereto.
Scripture talks about Enoch being translated bodily. Scripture does NOT even plausibly hint at Mary ascending bodily and not dying.
NIV translation 2 Peter 1:20 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
KJV translation 2 Peter 1:20-21 20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The focus is on the prophet, not the reader.
