Yes, lucky you, you get to compare people to Nazis while pretending that you're not comparing them to Nazis! Bully for you!

A demeaning remark about another group, another confession, a leader or author - other than another Freeper - is NOT "making it personal" in the Religion Forum guidelines.

However, such remarks are not tolerated on open threads when they are anti-Semitic, racist, violent, tacky, hate-mongering or in the view of the moderator, serve no purpose other than to cause trouble.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.

If this ugliness continues there will be consequences.

That means that it's possible to legally make demeaning remarks about a group that another Freeper belongs to without mentioning that Freeper by name and thus insult them. Everyone knows that the insult is transitive, but the rules act as though it isn't. The rule doesn't make sense.

The remark was directed at me and at the other evolution posters on these threads.

I find it interesting that a false quotation is acceptable, even defended, and the motives of evolution supporters can be impugned with no consequences, but I seem to be facing banning for trying to protect the integrity of these discussions.

The rules are different in the religion forum. That's why we avoid this place. Alas, this thread somehow ended up here, and it's subject to these rules. It's best to discuss nothing but the weather. (It's wonderful.)

there are people here who would be crushed by the idea that life cannot arise spontaneously from physics and chemistry

No, actually there aren't. The problem is with your terminology. "Spontaneous," as in "spontaneous generation," has historically been used in biology to describe living things arising from non-life as a regular and reoccurring phenomena of nature as opposed to anything like a specific process of chemical evolution which presumably only happened once, presumably of some significant span of time, and under particular conditions.

IOW you need to avoid the word "spontaneous" if you're intending to refer to modern ideas about abiogenesis or biopoesis else you'll invariably cause confusion because of the term's historical connotations.

There's always sports. Sports should be safe. So long as you "restrict" yourself to ascribing motives to all the fans of another team, rather than one particular fan, that is.

No it's not, it's been raining almost all day. But I've heard people whose screen names start with P often have delusional views on what constitutes good weather. :-P

Given the history of these discussions, in which people who oppose the teaching of creationism in science class are smeared as being national socialists or fasicsts, I would have hoped that the comparison of us to Nazis, even in jest, would have been avoided.

The hidden humor of Nazism is that Nazism was SOCIALISM...
So was Fascism.. as was/is Communism.. A Nazi was a socialist.. You know, like an american democrat.. and not a few BIG givernment republicans...

Yes it did.. This is a political forum, basically.. Socialism is "the" problem, versions of it, Politically and Religiously relate completely.. America is not a democracy but a republic..

The problem is the false association of evolution with socialism.

In simple historical fact, Darwin got the idea for evolution from the Scottish economists (i.e., Adam Smith). Evolution has traditionally been blamed for lazie-faire capitalism. It is somewhat comical to see it associated with socialism.

Even today there is great angst among liberals about the implications of evolution -- people are not all the same, individuals differ inately in their abilities, and so forth.

Liberals are all for teaching "science" as long as it doesn't impinge on their fantasies.

You are absolute wrong if you think the evolution supporters on this forum have nothing nasty to say about the way liberals distort, deny and misuse science.

The problem is that science is apolitical, and people as individuals are not.
