Well, Thomas Sowell is from Charlotte, too!

He is? Here I thought he was at Stanford.... oh... never mind...

Gastonia, Charlotte, Harlem, Harvard ... and the rest is history.

Well, the article (and Spong) fling a bunch of terms around rather loosely. I'm not going to defend the use of the terms, nor a quick effort to correct the title a little.

Would you be willing to craft a precise but minor correction to the title?

"If God is an interventionist God, then it gets to be very scary when you ask, 'Whose prayers are going to change God's mind?'Ÿ" he said.

Be afraid, very afraid Bishop Spong.

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Is your God the God of the Hebrews or Allah?

The God of the Jews is interventionist, jealous demanding, punishing etc.

Too bad Spong is illiterate and can't read the Bible or anything else historically relevant about our God and his history with humans.

I have read something like that, only the theory that children's perception of God is shaped by their parents and how they were treated by those parents. If parents are impatient or intolerant, the child thinks of God as the same. If parents are patient and forgiving, the child sees God differently. Usually we arrive as adults at our own perceptions of God but not always. I know it has always made me think twice about how I treated my kids, knowing I was such a strong influence on whether those kids would form a close relationship with the Lord. My kids are now 19 and 18 years old and I am happy to say they love the Lord and know the Lord loves them. So maybe Spong's father did have a profound effect on him that he has yet to outgrow.

This guy is very scary. This in no way even comes close to resembling the Episcopal church I am part. I intend to stand and fight for God's church. These nut cases are being used by the father of lies and don't even know it.

because satan wants to destroy what is God's. The best way to do it is from within.

"...who identify with hating gay people ..."

I would really be curious as to how many people who oppose homosexual marriage actually hate homosexuals. I'll take for granted there are some, but I'm pretty sure it's a minority. However, I don't see any way to get any kind of objective number.

He said Jesus stands at the center of his life.

I wonder if Jesus' existence is even needed for Spong's personal theology.

While I will admit that Spong is not representative of the Episcopal Church I do believe that Episcopals are moving closer to his views then to Orthodoxy.
