I have no doubt the thread would be filled with diatribes against sunflowers and the color yellow.

And against those purporting to be sunflowers and yellow and who are surely going to hell (at least you don't get the last on the non-religion threads!). ;-)

I actually came back to the religion threads starting when JP II was dying. I had avoided them for a few months because of the nastiness.

"In the near future you will become aware of recent Prot scholarship on the nature of the Pauline letters...."

With your ability to predict the future, you probably don't care what language anything is in.

Actually, the book is out now.

So I'm predicting the current situation, which doesn't call for much linguistic ability.

But you probably haven't read it yet--which caused me to speculate that you might become aware of it 'in the future.'

"Are you incapable of even considering that Bishop Olmstead is promoting the Tridentine Mass for its own sake, because he thinks it's a good thing?"

The good bishop should be promoting Novus Ordo and the wonderful fruits of Vatican II. He will only confuse his flock.

The strong presence of the SSPX and other schismatic groups did indeed play a role in the Bishop's decision as evidenced by his initial announcement a year ago. The fact that so many of the faithful were attending these Masses, was of concern and he felt that it would be in the best interests of their souls to offer them the Traditional Mass.

There remains a strong SSPX membership but many have welcomed the opportunity to celebrate the Tridentine Mass within a setting approved by Mother Church.

Many, like yourself, see the NOM and Vatican II as synonymous - not so. Those of us who prefer the Traditional Latin Mass do not reject the fruits of Vatican II and we support the Church and the Pope and are obedient to the Bishop. The Bishop in his wisdom knows there is room for both forms of the liturgy just as there is for Eastern Rite within Mother Church and for other diversity Masses offered in Phoenix Diocese such as Tongan, Black American, Polish and Italian.

We are all Catholic regarding Doctrine, Canon Law, Church Authority and Faith - i.e. we are one body in Christ.

Faithful to what? Certainly not to Rome's new Mass and the local diocese. I doubt whether today's bishops are interested in souls assuming they know the concept. Their motivation is more to do with market share and financial contribution.

If you do not reject the bitter fruits of Vatican II, why do you persist in your preference for the old Mass? Is there a small amount of disobedience there which is at odds with the reformed church? Evidently, you swallow whatever is thrown at you but surely you can get to love the rite celebrated by both Woytjla and Ratzinger if you try hard enough.

The strong presence of the SSPX [snip] did indeed play a role in the Bishop's decision as evidenced by his initial announcement a year ago.

Then those who "prefer" the TLM should get down on their knees and thank the SSPX.

I know the priest that was just sent to serve the SSPX mission in Phoenix, he just may be a walking saint. I have no doubt that the Phoenix SSPX chapel will continue to grow under his guidance.
