[history]
October 9, 2003 -- JUDAS drove a hard bargain compared to President Bush. At least the great betrayer got 30 pieces of silver. All Bush is going to get for delivering the Kurds unto their enemies will be 10,000 Turkish troops - who will act solely in Ankara's interests, not in the interests of Washington or the people of Iraq. Bush's desire for Turkish forces is craven. Hoping to reduce U.S. troop commitments as an election looms, he verges on throwing away the practical and moral achievements won with our soldiers' blood.

Because international issues trump all others in this dangerous age, many of us have given Bush a pass on his greedy, polarizing domestic agenda as long as his foreign policy appeared effective, courageous and wise. "...many of us..." Hmmm.

I gotta admit, getting the Turks involved in Iraq was not the best idea the Bush Admin has had...

"Bush regieme"?
That's a very harsh and surprising comment from Peters.

Agreed. But Peters could have made that point without the gratuitous cracks. Judas? Please!
Agree that the Kurds deserve consideration but W's first duty is to do what's best in the interests of the American people.

The Iraqi government, that the US established said they don;t want Turkish troops in Iraq.
As welcome as German troops in the Sudetenland
To: John Beresford Tipton
I agree with you and with Peters on the subject of his piece, but think he'd be better served without the domestic attacks on Bush.

I don't know how Bush can do this to the Kurds. They helped our Special Forces secure the pipe lines in Northern Iraq and they gave them intelligence reports. They were our allies when we couldn't even
buy the Turks help in the war. Now he's sticking a knife in the backs of the Kurds.
It seems like the only individuals Bush is interested in protecting are the illegal immigrants. His priorities are totally screwed up. God help the Kurds!!

This will do nothing but undermine the Iraqi Ruling Council that we are hoping will govern Iraq, and piss off every group in the country.
Bad mistake, imho.

"PS Do I get the million $$?"
I am grateful to be remembered for my past generosity, though I am now unfortunately in no position to respond favorably to even your request for a million dollar cashiers check.
Mr. Anthony is no longer in my service. He said he was bored giving all those millions to worthy people such as you, LisaFab, and has instead hooked up with that young scamp, Dick Clark, and joined his Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol.
So though you might keep looking down you driveway for Mr. Anthony, he will no longer be coming here to Silverstone on his way to find his "next millionaire".
On many occasions I was able to summon Michael Anthony to come to my palatial estate, Silverstone, to receive his next assignment. Unfortunately, his scoundrel of a cousin, Mordred "Tex" Anthony had me mortgage Silverstone and invest in Enron. I am now trying to get handouts from all those very same millionaires that I created, but because I did it anonymously, they think I'm a con man and slam the door in my face.
Now if you would like to send me a small remittance, it might enable me to prime my finacial pump, by flying over to Nigeria to move ahead with a project that I am told, in absolute confidence, should fatten my secret bank account that their Central Bank is holding in my name to the sweet tune of $50 million rolling. Can I count on you?

I agree you and also believe we need to take a wait an see attitude here...Make no mistake, the Trukish military and the Turkish government are two very different animals. The level of control the civilians have over the military is quite limited once the force is deployed. Although the Turkish goverment has been a fair-weather friend, their military people have always been staunch allies. I do not believe they will do anything to weaken the Prez's position regardless of the instructions they recieve from the politicos.

I'm afraid I cannot help you Mr. Tipton, as a number of years ago a man named Jack Bailey offered me a cheesy crown and a dozen wilted roses and I have been in dire circumstances ever since.

Peters seems to be part of a large group of retired Army officers corps who are tough on defense but social liberals at heart. Some even run for public office!

Only saying that while I agree with Peters (and you) in principle, he adds nothing to his point by bashing the president's domestic policies.
