I received that image in an email from my sister. All I know about it is she said it was taken by a firefighter in Wyoming.

I've made it my Desktop background, and I even made a screen-saver out of it. It goes perfectly with my black monitor and the dark colors of my computer station.

I've been looking at it closely and I think it's a well executed, probably professionally executed, composite. Certain aspects of the houses on the hillside and the trees into which the lightning is striking, in addition to the surpassingly rare sky conditions the photo purports to depict, have convinced me that it is not an actual straightforward representation of a real sunset and lightning strike.

But it's a great and dramatic work of art even if it is a composite.
