Dems: New Recall in 100 Days

California Democrat Party state spokesman Bob Mulholland said his party is giving Arnold Schwarzenegger just 100 days before a new recall effort may be launched.

Mulholland made his threat on Fox News Tuesday night after polls closed and major press outlets declared Arnold Schwarzenegger the winner.

On Tuesday, Gray Davis declined to refute reports that he may back a new recall effort against Schwarzenegger.

Already press reports indicate that Democrats have $3 million prepared for a new recall effort.

Also, Hollywood billionaire Stephen Bing has promised to finance any Democratic-backed recall effort.

And if Arnold does a good job, will they support him?

That's their biggest fear. That's why they want to get the recall happening right away, while things are still screwed up. And the time between now and the day Davis actually leaves office, they are going to do as much as possible to screw things up so that Arnold has a real mess on his hands. Then they will blame it all on him and say "See, Arnold made things even worse!"

I would be watching Boxer and Feinstein closely about announcements to run against Arnold in 2006. If one of them announces quickly, particularly DiFi, Hillary will be leaning toward 2004. The Clintons have to be out in front to control Kalfornia in 2004, or there would be no hope. If these two are quiet until Democartic primaries get underway, Hillary will not be a candidate in 2004.

CA law, Ahnold hasnt been sworn in yet. He hasnt even been certified yet, and you know the Dim Sec State in CA will drag his feet on that...

I think you got that backwards. I think Arnold is more likely to bring the Republican party in his more socially liberal direction, then the Republican party is likely to bring California in a socially conservative direction.

I think this election spells the end of social conservatism both in the California Republican Party.

If Arnie is successful, he is likely to be governor for the next seven years. When he runs for re-election, he will need to hold onto the defecting dems from union households and the indies. That will keep him towing a fiscally conservative but socially liberal line.

Having once assembled a winning coalition on that basis, I don't see any prospects of the party trying to win the old-fashioned hard right way.

I think ultimately, true blue conservatives may come to rue this day, when the RINO's took over the Republican party and apparatus.

RE: another recall in 100 days... proof that the recall system needs revision.

IMHO, the petitions should force the STATE LEGISLATURE to vote on recall (and a recorded vote at that!). If a governor is bad enough to deserve recall, the state legislators would see fit to do it. If they didn't, they'll all have to face their own electors at the next cycle. This ties the state legislators closer to their constituents which would be a good thing.

Then, raise the number of signatures required to get on the replacement ballot. Use a percentage. IMHO, 1% of previous elections votes sounds reasonable enough to keep the riff-raff out.
