To ping people, all you need to do is keep a list of names, separated by semicolons, in some kind of file (e.g., on Word). And keep the list updated as people want on or off.

I actually e-mail updated lists to myself, and do a subject-line search for "ping" to find the most recent one.

Then, when you think they might be interested in an article, copy and paste your list into the "To" box of your "Posting Comment" page.

Oh, and to ping, say, the *Catholic_list, treat the list name just like any other FR name.
