They recognize the writing on the wall. They know the only way they can win this is to steal it in the courts (i.e., pushing for liberal judges who don't give a sh*t about the law).

I think they know they will ultimately lose, but they want to push it till it has to be apealed to the US Supreme Court for a decision.
Then in '04, the national Dems will be screaming about Republicans "Stealing Elections" in Florida and California.

It will be a very effective smear.

It will only end up hurting them more. They can't run on anything positive and if today's shellacking doesn't knock common sense into them, nothing will. I love the smell of total Democrat meltdown...
