I thought that the networks dismantled VNS (the organization that did the exit polls) after the 2000 election.

To the best of my knowledge under March Fong Eu, then CA Secretary of State, exit polling data cannot be broadcast in CA until after the polls close. That doesn't mean Drudge won't do it, however.
