The one name I remember is the son of Spinks? I am not familiar with boxing at all. He also named at least three other fighters. Wow Don King was dressed like an uber-patriot too, holding two American flags...LOL Apparently he's been talking to Dubya about doing this fight for some time.

Thank GOD for google cache...
Don King ready for Iraq:
Don King wants to hold a boxing match featuring his newest star, welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga, for U.S. troops in Mosul, Iraq. The troops, with the 101st Airborne Division, recently held a boxing tournament for fun. They received a package of donated boxing gloves and promotional items from King. "It sort of gave me the opportunity to put your patriotism where your mouth is," King said recently. "We want somebody to come over there live and in living color to boost these troops' morale." King joked that he might even match up two generals. The boxing promoter said he's sending letters to key Republican leaders to try to arrange the trip. He said a fight could be held as early as January. Mayorga is a 29-year-old boxer from Managua, Nicaragua, who in July beat Vernon Forrest to successfully defend his WBC and WBA welterweight titles

Probably Cory Spinks, who I believe holds one of the alphabet soup belts. ....A very good young fighter. Although I sure would like to see a heavyweight championship fight.......
Yeah, King was probably wearing his red, white, and blue demin jacket.

Mayorga? A Nicaraguan? I was hoping for an American. Mayorga's pretty funny though......a boxer who chain smokes. I'd like to see Cory Spinks kick his ass.

That's what I heard. The rest of cable was awful so I thought I'd turn it on Fox News and all I saw was Geraldo with this huge smile on his face laughing... then I saw Don King waving two flags.
Glad to know he's on the side of right, and a potential photo op for the FR useful idiot caption-a-rama

I'm not familiar with him but if he's anything like some of those other cocky halfassed boxer, yeah I'd like to see Spinks wipe the floor with him. I think this should be on pay-per-view. I would certainly pay $50 to see it.

Nah, Mayorga's not a bad guy.
But I'm not sure I understand .....did you hear that it'll be a Mayorga-Spinks matchup?

I think so, but then I was so excited to see Don King waving an American flag I left without watching the whole thing. That's what I get for not having a TV in my room. I was hoping more FReepers would be watching Fox News. I suppose I'm the only one that doesn't have a date tonight :grinning:

YESSSSS!!!!! That PBS blues special is excellent. Sometimes PBS gets it right. Tomorrow they have 'Italians in America' running all day... AND since I don't have a life anyway, I'll be watching.

yup... and apparently he had sent over boxing equipment so the troops could have their own boxing ring and tourney. This was not that long ago, and I wonder if this story fell victim to the nattering nabobs of negativism liberal media.
