According to Agence France-Presse, the Center for Civilian Bio-defense Strategies at Johns Hopkins University says: "Botulinum toxin is the single most poisonous substance known" and "poses a major bioweapons threat because of its extreme potency and lethality, its ease of production, transport and misuse, and the potential need for prolonged intensive care in affected persons." From a French paper, no less.
Our conservative pundits need to read the Kay report and go on offense.

Now we'll see Dims on TV doing cereal commercials where they sprinkle their "daily dose of botulinum" on the cereal and gove a big lip-smackung "Mmmmmm" to try to prove it's not WMD...
Any kind of luck and one will screw up and use the real stuff...

And when the strain of botulinum turns out to be similar or identical to one the U.S. military toyed with years ago, 90% of the world will declare "it was planted".
Here's the only WMD that will convince the world -- Sadaam turning himself into Polish peacekeepers, asking for help in removing his suicide belt ... full of nuclear isotopes and bio-toxins.

We'd be supremely lucky to get 50%.

Botulinum toxin is the most potent toxin known to man. The lethal dose is fifty micrograms. One soup can full of pure Botox, properly dispersed, can kill six million people.
The same amount of plutonium could not cause near that number of casualties.
Do you think that qualifies as a weapon of mass destruction?

According to a couple of books I've read, the Germans during World War II actively studied the use of the botulinum toxin to be spread over England. The results would have been horrible: imagine 1-2 kilograms dispersed aerosol-style over London--the death rate would have been in at least in the six-figure range.

Hey, maybe the guy was just planning to open a bo-tox clinic after Saddam finally fell.

You are too funny--do you think that is where Nancy Pelosi gets her botox injections. Ha, no wonder she seemed so upset about the Kay report--she was outed.

Kuwait foils smuggling of chemicals, bio warheads from Iraq
Associated Press -- Kuwait City -- October 2, 2003 (AP) -- Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country, a Kuwaiti newspaper said on Wednesday. The pro-Government Al-Siyassah, quoting an unnamed security source, said the suspects had been watched by security since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time." It did not say when or how the smugglers entered Kuwait or when they were arrested. The paper said the smugglers might have had accomplices inside Kuwait. It said Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah would hand over the smuggled weapons to an FBI agent at a news conference, but did not say when. Government officials could not be immediately reached for comment. Iraqi Interior Minister Nouri Al-Badran met on Tuesday with Sheik Nawwaf and discussed cooperation between the two countries in security matters. His visit is the first by an Iraqi interior minister to Kuwait since 1990. Copyright 2003. Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. ---http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_399454,00050004.htm--

There is no doubt that Saddam wanted WMDs and used them against the Kurds. The question for which the conservatives aren't asking, was Saddam an immediate threat to the US. Did Saddam have the weapons and the means to deliver them at the begining of Gulf War the rerun. When you imploy a doctrine of preemption, you must provide convincing evidence that your attack would prempt an attack by an ememy, for example the photos provided during the Cuban Missle Crisis which clearly showed offensive missles on the island. Even as blind as conservatives are, they must volunteer that Saddam wasn't planning an attack at the start of the war. One vial of botulinum toxin does rise to level of immediate threat and might I remind you it took months in which to find it. Saddam deserved what he got, and I don't cry for his passing, but please stop scrambling for justification. You won't find because this war wasn't necessary, and it was ill timed. Conservatives have trapped us in quakmire and we are in a maze that we can't get out of.

Wasn't Clinton's Sec OF def. running around sunday morning talk shows with a 5 lb sack of sugar showing the amount of anthrax it would take to wipe out a major city?
Then they bombed. Did they have a real picture of weaponized anthrax?
After 9-11,when you find the smoking gun it's too late.
And as to.."One vial of botulinum toxin does rise to level of immediate threat and might -->I remind you it took months in which to find it.<---" you just answered your own question. How long does it take to make an amount large enough to kill thousands? A year? A mounth? a few weeks? Do you really want to wait and see?

Saddam knew that his next-door enemy, Iran, was developing/acquiring nukes, and you can bet that he was doing the same thing.
