For nearly a decade, the far right has trapped the Republican Party in a murder-suicide soap opera, putting forth right-wing candidates for statewide office who can't win elections. The far right, which is better-organized and willing to fight dirtier than Republican moderates, has crippled its party. The Democratic Party of California has benefited enormously.

I'm not sure I would have worded it this harshly, but the gist of this is probably accurate.

This is pure Bullsh*t! This woman is hysterical! She's mis-stating the facts, and she knows it! The "far-right" is the only thing that distinguishes republicans from democrats! And, (the truth be told) it is the "country-club" faction of the party, who have put forth candidates who couldn't win elections!

Agree it was worded too harshly, and shows a short memory. All she seems to really be referencing is the surge for Simon over Riordan.

What other examples of statewide office candidates can she point to as examples of a right-wing candidate being forced in against the wishes of the center/left wing of the Republican party here in CA?

I can't imagine she thinks the nomination of Matt Fong was driven by a bunch of us deeply conservative Republicans over an unwilling bunch of moderate Republicans.

I don't seem to remember ANY viable "non-Conservative" alternative to Dan Lungren. Who was the supposed "moderate" candidate in that one?

How about Bill Jones election to the SOS office. Is he a right-winger? Nah, not really.

I may be on the edge of her 10-year mark, but since would the nomination of Michael Huffington illustrate her point? Nope.

Are the party nominees for Atty General, SOS, Lt. Govnr, etc. deep right-wingers and losing because of it? Nope. They're losing because of poor upstream ballot support, better marketing of the post-prop-187 era by Democrats, and a dominant number of Dems in this state.
