Rush: I'll Tell All on Painkiller Story
Newsmax.com ^ | 10/03/03 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Posted on 10/03/2003 9:48:28 AM PDT by kattracks

Addressing for the first time allegations that he's under investigation in Florida for abusing prescription painkillers, talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh promised his audience that he'd tell them everything he knew "as soon as I know what I'm up against."

"The story in Florida, it really is an emerging situation," Limbaugh said at the top of his Friday broadcast. "I watch what's being reported on television and it changes from morning to morning, hour to hour, day to day.

He continued:

"I don't know yet what I'm dealing with here, folks. I really don't know the full scope of what I'm dealing with. But when I get all the facts, when I get all the details of this, rest assured that I will discuss this with you and tell you how it is."

Limbaugh pledged, "I'll tell you everything there is - well - maybe more than you want to know."

Sounding confident and strong, Limbaugh said he'd received more than 25,000 supportive emails since he was hit with twin controversies over his comments to ESPN and allegations from a former housekeeper that she obtained for him thousands of painkilling pills over the last four years.

"I can't tell you how much I appreciate the notes, all of the expressions of support. It means everything to me, as has your support over these many years," the top talker said.

I looked up Vicodin and overuse may result in rapid hearing loss, however here is what is alleged.

That's how the National Enquirer describes this week's cover story about archconservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, outed as an OxyContin abuser by his former maid. --- From the Atlanta Journal Constitution

The drug named in the Smoking gun Search Warrant is Hydrocodone, which by itself will not cause hearing loss. In the past, there have been no reports of progressive hearing loss occurring as a result of overdosing hydrocodone or acetaminophen. However, Los Angeles ear, nose, and throat specialists have found that when both agents are combined and overused, hearing loss can occur and can progress to total hearing loss.

But that is not the drug that is tied to Rush.

These days, Enquirer stories are carefully vetted by their media attorneys; the paper is probably more accurate on the whole than other national newspapers

That only makes for lies that they can't be sued over. Why do you think they like the UFO and baby alien stories, because the aliens are not going to sue.

The drug in the investigation is Oxycontin.

Get your facts straight. Both Oxycontin and hydrocodone are involved. The maid explicitly mentioned hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is the primary ingredient in Vicodin. Abuse of Vicodin is known to cause hearing loss.

Sorry to burst your Rush bubble.

Try this article from medline

Ironically written by ENT surgeons from the House clinic where, I believe, Rush had his cochlear implant.

A sad coincidence.

Robert Downey was arrested for cocaine and heroin, both illegal drugs. I'm thinking that those illegal drugs are treated differently than the manufactured opiates such as codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc. You think? Plus, Downey was found in other circumstances.

Sorry to burst your Rush bubble.

You've burst nothing but your chops. You have yet to produce anything but your opinion.

At my age I prefer not to be labeled as 'gullible' just would rather see a jury of his peers convict him first - if he is guilty. Can you wait for that?

>>Well, if I were accused of taking illegal drugs, I wouldn't say "I don't know what I'm up against," ...<<

I would. Of course, I've experienced the system. That is why you NEVER, EVER talk to 60 minutes, even if you've done nothing wrong.

Although I will concede they are better than the NYT, that's still not saying much.

No, you're just making the typical ass of yourself that all liberaltarian drug pushers do. The real question, is what kind of drugs, LeRoy, do you use and when will you admit to being a user.

You sound like another, bitter, liberaltarian druggie who has an ax to grind with Rush? Just say no and maybe you'll have 1/100th the success Rush has had in his life.

Personal attacks are all the War On Some Drugs cheerleaders have. Pathetic.

That's a typical low-life response from a Drug Warrior. All you jack-booted types can do is smear people because you have no rational response.

"I HAVE NEVER TAKEN ANY ILLEGAL DRUGS!"

According to statistics, only a small percentage of Americans can make that claim. For those of us who grew up in the 60's or 70's, that percentage is even smaller.

Insofar as criminal liablity is concerned-absolutely. I am a much stronger believer in due process and the presumption of innocence than a lot of people here.

But Rush has made his career in the public eye and the criminal standard simply does not apply there-Rush certainly doesn't hesitate to discuss the potential criminal acts of others even before they have been charged with anything.

Perhaps "gullible" was too strong; I apologize.

I just feel that as Rush has made his career by the sword of publicity, his career may die by the sword of publicity

Liberals thrive off the misery of others. Compassion? They don't even know how to spell it!

You are 100% correct.
