AN DIEGO (AP) -- Gubernatorial front-runner Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged that he has "behaved badly" to women and offered an apology Thursday.

Schwarzenegger's remarks, as he kicked off a four-day bus tour of the state in the final days of the recall campaign, came after a Los Angeles Times story published Thursday in which six women accused him of sexually harassing and groping them.

Look at what happened to the Tories in Canada. They became the Progressive Conservative Party, gradually moved to the left, rejecting conservative philosophy, and today they hold 12 seats in the House of Commons, one fewer than the far-left NDP.

This is an excellent observation. I would make two comments: One is that Canada has a Liberal PM and has for almost 10 years.

The second is that Canada is a parliament and parties can form coalitions. Some die-hard CA conservatives wouldn't even allow their candidates to form coalitions to be "pure".

With this open admission, I like this guy more today than I did yesterday and I'm not an Arnold fan. It shows that he still has honesty and sincerity although that may soon evaporate should he be elected.

All that now remains is for the usual shrill cadre of FR conspiracy nuts and whackos to show a similar degree of integrity and retract their posts of earlier today when this story broke. I refer to the deluge of "liberal slime machine"-type posts.

Had this been Clinton you would have been all over this, whooping it up.

Arnold is a Democrat. It's just that he doesn't realize it and nor do a lot of people on this site.

My name is Chris Hansen. I am a born again Christian. I could never vote for schwarzeneger. He promotes gay adoption which puts kids at greater risk. He promotes abortion which kills kids even before they're born. These are the kids he supposedly loves and cares for. Now in all fairness let's give Schwarzeneger some credit. He may be guilty of promoting child endangerment and even child killing, but he does promise not to be a thief as well! He's promised to be very very good and not raid the public treasury!

I still hold out hope that this centrist-RINO mentality that exists in the California GOP today, won't spread nationally and try to infect existing conservative Republican strongholds. I'm gonna try and stay posiitve and optimistic about all things political, even if I can't always stay above the fray here on FR.

There are still plenty of GOP moderates that are willing to work with GOP conservatives and keep the national Republican Party on the right course. The centrist-RINO's will be dealt with accordingly.

What incident do you absolutely know occurred that made Arnold Schwarzenegger guilty of sexual harassment?

It isn't a difficult question unless you can't answer it.

The news reports on the drive home were full of Arnold's apology, but actually being there and hearing it in person, and getting the feel from him and from the the crowd meant a great deal. I have to add that Arnold supporters come in all stripes, shapes, sizes, colors and ages and it was a sight to behold.

Sounds incredible.... and history in the making!

He seems to be approaching this is a neat way... it seems more of a "let's do this together" platform than the common "I'm the very smartest one to do this for you" attitude :-)

If anyone ever wondered "How can these women defend Clinton?", these female freepers have given us the answer with their defense of Arnold.

Yep.

My beef is not so much the issues as it the fact that McClintock seems determined to be the California version of Marshall Coleman in the `94 Senate race. Why is it that major Indian gambling interests are donating to both Bustamante and McClintock? They seem to fear Schwarzenegger will upset the sweetheart deal they currently have, and they appear to be playing both ends against the middle.

I also have grown very tired of the "Mikhail Suslov" approach a lot of folks are taking about this recall election and others. If certain people persist in taking a "my way or the highway" approach on these matters, and will not even consider the possibility that reasonable people of a conservative bent might disagree on some issues, and that others might disagree on the tactics to be used in implementing the principles - then they will fracture the movement.

A lot of the folks being attacked for supporting Schwarzenegger are by no means RINOs, trolls, or disruptors - at least some have been Freepers of good standing for longer than I have been here. I sense some of this is being pushed by some folks the Left in a "divide and conquer" strategy that, if allowed to succeed will only proceed to aid the Left.

Actually, I googled it. I find that google works better than the FreeRepublic search, if you can narrow the search down with multiple keywords (I used the posters name+Clinton+Broaddrick and came up with 4 or 5 hits).

one of the supposed charges from the newspaper article:

A response [if this is supposedly the same incident]:

Arnold's Co-Workers Decry Article As Fictional Gossip-Mongering

Linda Hamilton, who co-starred with Schwarzenegger in both of the wildly-successful Terminator films, denounced as "fantasy" the story of an incident in a limousine in which the Premiere article claimed Arnold lifted her onto his lap in the presence of her then-boyfriend Director James Cameron and others (including Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver). Hamilton stated in a letter she sent to Premiere's Editor in Chief: "Let me be perfectly clear. In my nearly twenty years of friendship with Arnold Schwarzenegger I have never witnessed ANY HINT of the behavior you so carelessly ascribe him. I have known and witnessed Arnold on set as a man who is tirelessly PROFESSIONAL, and in life as a singularly devoted husband, father, and family man." Hamilton went on to describe the publication as "unsubstantiated/gossip-mongering/character-assassinating/smear campaign/tactics."

So let's recap:

The LA Times reprints accusations that Arnold acted like a pig toward some women.

Arnold promptly and publicly admits he acted like a pig toward some women.

Arnold promptly and publicly apologizes for acting like a pig toward some women.

I remember Bill Clinton quite well, thank you all very much. Arnold Schwarzenegger is no Bill Clinton.

I clicked on the link. I don't see your point. South was talking about a rape allegation that had been checked out over months of time and not pursued 5 days before an election.
