Well .. I think the wife is more involved than you have noted. She and Hillary are bestest of friends, and the Wilsons have held fundraisers for both the Clintons.

If the wife suggested Wilson go on the trip - I can put 2+2 together and get Hillary as the suggestor!

Since the clintons were sashaying their behinds all over the world trying to drum up support for FRANCE's stand against the war, surely the Clintons could have taken advantage of Valerie's connections to get one of the left's "operatives" to go to Niger, in order to set up the scam. The clintons did everything they could to try to stop the war. I believe this was behind the motivation; thinking if the intel wasn't there - somehow this was going to influence Bush and stop him from going to war.

Hillary had to know what a war would do for Bush's numbers. People were angry and we wanted those murderers to be brought to justice. And .. the clintons wanted to protect France's investment in Iraq; which x42 had to know about.

The other problem is that the UK has never backed off on their assertion that Iraq had made inquiries about purchasing yellowcake; and the added fact that the UK has other independent confirmation of that information.

My final point of agreement is also about the wife. I find it rather interesting that Wilson's wife works in WMD and the biggest stink coming out of Congress is WMD. I do not believe for one moment this is a coincidence.

Cy, I have been reading all the comments and Mrs. Clinton kept popping up in my sleepy head, I think you are the first to mention her. Remember Livingstone and the FBI files and no one seemed to know who hired him all though it slipped at some point that Hillary had hired him, though she denied it. Somehow the Clinton connection with the Wilson’s is well documented, and Mr. Wilson was a Clinton 'operative' during the '90s, they are in a position to do some Clinton dirty work, for lack of a better word, as they are still working within the government. This is how the Clinton Mafia works past and present.

As for a possible Clinton angle, I wouldn't argue against that point of view. May I draw your attention back to the start of my article, in the section titled "Background?" Seymour Hersh has a "former high-level intelligence official" in the Clinton administration talking about how the British were spreading disinformation about Iraq in the late 1990's. This source implies that the Clinton administration was actively encouraging the British to do so, if not participating themselves.

Specifically as regards how the Iraq-Niger sentence got into the State of the Union Address, Hersh writes that this source said, "Somebody deliberately let something false get in there," the former high-level intelligence official added. "It could not have gotten into the system without the agency being involved. Therefore it was an internal intention. Someone set someone up." So, according to Hersh, we have a former Clinton administration high-level intelligence official saying bluntly that there was a set up.
