As my readers know, I have long thought that this "Plame Game" was concocted by Rogue elements of the CIA (Plame, and others that I will name later) with the help certain connected members of MSM to attempt to discredit the President of the United States. As this article in American Thinking stated, the old "Iron Triangle".This post is from the Free Republic Site, by a poster by the name of "Wolfstar" in 2003. I don't know the author, but it was their take on this that started me looking into to it.
Ping for later comprehension when my hair stops hurting.
"This is not only a possible breach of national security; it is a potential violation of law. Under the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982, it is a crime for anyone who has access to classified information to disclose intentionally information identifying a covert agent The punishment for such an offense is a fine of up to $50,000 and/or up to ten years in prison. Journalists are protected from prosecution, unless they engage in a "pattern of activities" to name agents in order to impair US intelligence activities. So Novak need not worry."
Two days after the Novak article, Corn is citing the law that Fitzgerald used to go after Libby and Rove. The CIA didn't send over the referral to the DOJ until much later. Corn is credited with being the first journalist to recognize that the outing of Plame's wife was a crime. I think Wilson/Plame gave him some assistance in recognizing that a possible crime was committed.
Thank you.
A long but GREAT read,especially with Woodward's "revelation".....BTTT
Thanks.
"Corn ends with the theme we've heard from the Left ever since his article appeared: "The Wilson smear was a thuggish act. Bush and his crew abused and misused intelligence to make their case for war. Now there is evidence Bushies used classified information and put the nation's counter-proliferation efforts at risk merely to settle a score. It is a sign that with this gang politics trumps national security."
"A thuggish act?" Evidence? "Put the nation's counter-proliferation efforts at risk to settle a score?" Quite list of assertions, based as they are on zero evidence of any such thing. In fact, when looked at in the sequence above, Wilson seems to have been the person who set up the whole story."
Fred Barnes stated on Special Report tonight that 'the truth' about Wilson/Plame could be found here:
"A Little Literary Flair"
From the July 26, 2004 issue - Weekly Standard: Joe Wilson wasn't a truth-teller.
by Matthew Continetti
Interesting that the National Press Club seems to be the venue for Wilson events and we have a Corn connection again. I had missed this:
"ONE DAY LAST OCTOBER, Ambassador Joe Wilson, his wife Valerie in tow, traveled to the National Press Club in downtown Washington, D.C., for lunch. It was a big day for Wilson. He was the guest of honor at a banquet thrown by the Nation Institute, which publishes the Nation, the venerable lefty weekly. Daniel Ellsberg was there. So was New Jersey senator Jon Corzine. Towards the end of lunch, plates of cold salad shunted aside, Wilson was invited onstage. Looking the part of a globetrotting former diplomat in his Zegna suit and trademark Hermès tie, he launched into a tirade against the Bush administration, which he claimed had ignored the findings of a trip he took to Niger in February 2002 to investigate claims that Saddam Hussein's Iraq had tried to acquire uranium there. His trip had disproved those claims, he continued, yet his findings were ignored. And when he went public with his story, the administration had tried to "silence" him by leaking to the press that his wife worked for the CIA.
There was much applause. And there was even more applause when Wilson then accepted the first-ever Ron Ridenhour Award for Truth-Telling, along with the award's $10,000 prize. (Ridenhour was the soldier who exposed the My Lai massacre in 1969.)"
Also interesting is that the administration officials named in the suit today are the same as those identified in Corn's article here:
David Corn | If President Bush wants to tell the truth to the American public, he can make Cheney, Rove and Libby come clean about their role in the Plame affair.05/1/2006 issue
The individuals appearing "on stage" in this "scandal" are actors. Wilson set up the story, but there's a playwright, director and casting director yet to be exposed.

BUMP for excellence in posting.
Nice chronology! Slow reading but not bad.
