France's first lady says she's made sacrifices for marital success, praises Hillary Clinton Wednesday October 01, 2003 PARIS (AP) For France's first lady, the recipe to marital success has been a balance of personal sacrifice, not too much nagging and standing by her man.

In an interview with the Nouvel Observateur magazine, Jacques Chirac's wife, Bernadette, also praised Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, saying the political success of America's former first lady is an inspiration to women worldwide.

``Not everyone is Hillary Clinton,'' Mrs. Chirac said in the magazine's upcoming edition, released Wednesday. ``She's an intellectual machine, like I've rarely met. A pro.''

Speaking at length about the role of a wife in politics, Mrs. Chirac said, ``The most important quality of a politician's wife is her ability to adapt.''

Jacques Chirac has been in politics for most of their 47-year marriage, rising through ministerial posts to an 18-year run as Paris mayor before becoming France's president in 1995.

``Right away, I realized that my husband had a vocation that, on the personal front would lead to, let's say, many sacrifices,'' the first lady said.

Working to further her husband's career ``was the only way, I told myself, not to lose my husband,'' said Mrs. Chirac, who also holds a locally elected post, in Correze, the couple's home region in central France.

Another way to keep harmony at home is to not always tell a man he's made a mistake or you disagree with him, she said.

``Maybe there are some husbands who like that,'' Mrs. Chirac said, adding that she felt such behavior would ``quickly become unbearable.''

In her case, the only way to hang on to her husband was to turn a blind eye to his many affairs and unscrupulous dealings.

Yeah, you seldom meet pros like that except thru an escort service.

You know, she's right. On a personal front, I've sacrificed drinking French wine and Perrier water. And I owe it all to Jacques ChIraq!

And that, just after her husband kissed the President Bush's wife's hand.

Any idea how Hillary's friend Vince Foster's body got from the White House, down to Ft. Marcy Park?

Chirac was not a husband worth keeping.

Clinton was not a husband worth keeping.

These women must think very little of themselves.

If I was the type of guy to call an escort service, and Hitlery showed up, I'd demand my money back and sue the service for emotional distress.

When did this interview take place? If it happened after Mrs. Bush met with her husband, then I consider it a direct dissing of our classy and gorgeous first lady. But it may have taken place earlier...

Let's not get into too much of a grisle over this. Afterall, check the source. Wasn't it Mrs. Charic that said, "Let the meek bake!"

Perhaps I'm confusing my French Queens. They both seem to have lost their head somewhere along the way.

Jacques Chirac's wife, Bernadette, said "....the political success of America's former first lady is an inspiration to women worldwide"

That is the exact type of statement I would expect from a fellow Socialist. "The Political Success" of Hillary Rotten is a MYTH. She has gained Power w/out accomplishing a darn thing. That is not a reason to be called a "Success". If using all of Saul Alinsky's Pivotal and Confrontational "Rules For Radicals" to keep her husband in office for 8 years qualifies as a success, then this country is surely damned. Winning a race in N.Y. is not a success, though it certainly has kept her and her farcical husband in the news on a daily basis for 3 years too long. I still wonder, quite regularly actually, what we as Americans who truly love this country, have done, to deserve such a fate.
