It seems the only qualification one needed to be warmly considered by the corrupt Lincoln was a lack of moral turpitude, and it is possible that the corrupt "Spoons" Butler was even more corrupt and had a greater lack of moral turpitude than Edwards, making his opinion something to be sought after by the corrupt Lincoln.
