"Citizenship" doesn't have to be enforced at gunpoint. The state of being a "subject" does.

Unlike "subjects", Americans are free to leave whenever they want. What's stopping you?

If you don't like someone being a part of something you have a duty to defend, why don't you leave?

Several of my ancesters tried to leave in 1861 but you sent a large army down here to shoot them instead.
