You deserve the thanks, Miss Marple. I'm sorry I forgot that it was you who mentioned this info the other day, and who inspired me to post the whole bio.

Well, you are welcome. Thank you for having the sense to post it as a separate thread!

I have a couple hours this afternoon. I think I will see what other interesting things I can discover. Google is SUCH a handy tool!

How about the White House. From Alberto Gonzales: "We were informed last evening by the Department of Justice that it has opened an investigation into possible unauthorized disclosures concerning the identity of an undercover CIA employee."

"...and Novak's claim is contradicted by the CIA."

Ummmm.............no offense intended, but do you mind quoting your source? Everything I've heard and read has said exactly the opposite.

Your torturing of the language is Clintonesque. That says possible unauthorized disclosures. Not a possible undercover CIA agent.

No one is claiming that it was a secret she was married to Wilson. The secret is that she was CIA.

I emailed CNS News about it (the bio is posted online 3 places). The guy wrote me back thanking me, so it's just a matter of time before it's all over. Tonight it'll be on Fox.

The White House says she is (was) an undercover CIA agent.

I've seen about 20 press reports like this: H"owever, in the July 14 article, Novak wrote that Plame "is an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction." Novak said Monday that he will not reveal the names of his sources. Other CIA sources told CNN on Monday that Plame was an operative who ran agents in the field."

The ONLY person claiming she was a mere analyst is NOVAK, and this contradicts his own column.

I don't think it was her name as much as it was her job classification. To reveal the name of a CIA "operative" is considered a crime - because that designation would be considered classified information.

However, Novak has said that she was just an analyst at the CIA - not an operative. And .. Novak said the CIA told him that information.

Sorry, but it has not been made clear yet whether she was covert or not. She may have been, and I'm on record stating that Novak is not in a position to know one way or another because if she was/is covert, the CIA is not going to just tell Novak. They'd deny it.

But it's still an open question. You don't have to like that I pointed that out, but that's just the way it is.

lug...I guess I have to follow you around FR today and correct you.

Please read Cliff May's piece on NRO, HERE. I have excerpted a pertainent passage for convenience.

<excerpt>
On July 14, Robert Novak wrote a column in the Post and other newspapers naming Mr. Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, as a CIA operative.

That wasn't news to me. I had been told that — but not by anyone working in the White House. Rather, I learned it from someone who formerly worked in the government and he mentioned it in an offhand manner, leading me to infer it was something that insiders were well aware of.

</excerpt>

Look, it is ok for you to not the like and disagree the President. It is ok that you want to be here on FR to malign the President. However, it is not ok for you to continually accuse everyone of spinning and make outlandish and totally unsupported statements.

I don't mind the debate with you. We have done this before. However, your debate tactic of accusing others of spin, buying the liberal democrat party line of attacking the President, and not offering SOURCED evidence to support your claims is getting a little old.

The White House says she is (was) an undercover CIA agent.

Again, wrong. You are stating something that is simply not correct. The White House Counsel said:

We were informed last evening by the Department of Justice that it has opened an investigation into possible unauthorized disclosures concerning the identity of an undercover CIA employee.

They didn't say that she was or wasn't. They said that there is an investigation into whether a possible unauthorized disclosure occurred.

The deal is she used her maiden name at work. So if you know your wife works for the CIA under her maiden name, why on earth reveal her maiden name in your bio? It's completely unnecessary. That's the point.

Now you are just lying, mattdono. I haven't attacked the President at all. I haven't said he had anything to do with this at all. And if someone in his admin had something to do with it, I hope he nails their hide to the wall. BUT, you have a bunch of people running around here repeating things like "she was merely an analyst" and "Novak didn't hear it from anyone at the White House" and those things are categorically untrue. Do you think the CIA would ask for an investigation if someone revealed the name of a non-covert analyst who everyone knew worked for them?

What do you think undercover means? Where did the White House say she was an "alleged" undercover employee? Oh, yeah - they didn't.

From Novak himself:

"A big question is her duties at Langley. I regret that I referred to her in my column as an "operative," a word I have lavished on hack politicians for more than 40 years. While the CIA refuses to publicly define her status, the official contact says she is "covered" -- working under the guise of another agency."
