I've always been puzzled why Jews join blacks in the democRAT party -- especially since Arafat was the most frequent "head of state" visitor at the Clinton White House -- and since Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are on public record as Jew-haters. Strange bedfellows.

The reason why Jews are in the Democrat party to begin with is fear of radical Christian evangelism. In the past, there was very good reason to fear aggressive attempts to convert Jews to Christianity, and as the Republican party was seen as the party of Christians, the Jews aligned themselves with the Democrats to protect themselves from a potentially theocratic government. As time has moved on, this fear has disappeared (most notably in the realization that Christians are the most solid backers of Israel, and the most reliable ally in the prevention of another holocaust there), and with it, the justification to remain Democrats.
