In July I was interviewing a senior administration official on Ambassador Wilson's report when he told the trip was inspired by his wife, a CIA employee working on weapons of mass destruction. Another senior official told me the same thing. As a professional journalist with 46 years experience in Washington I do not reveal confidential sources. When I called the CIA in July to confirm Mrs. Wilson's involvement in the mission for her husband -- he is a former Clitnon administration official -- they asked me not to use her name, but never indicated it would endanger her or anybody else. According to a confidential source at the CIA, Mrs. Wilson was an analyst, not a spy, not a covert operator, and not in charge of an undercover operatives...

He didn't come right and call Novak a lier .. but he said that Novak called him before the article was printed and told Wilson that the CIA informed him that his wife worked at the CIA and could Wilson confirm it

What I was referring to is not their intelligence, but their ethics and honesty. Not all journalists are unethical or dishonest, but more are than the general public knows. I don't urge automatic, blanket disbelief, just a healthy skepticism — suspended judgement until all facts about a controversy are in.

Mr Wilson said yesterday that the naming of his wife had parallels with the disclosure of the identity of the British scientist David Kelly, the source of BBC allegations that the British government "sexed up" an dossier on Iraqi weapons.

You're right....they are trying to pull the same thing and it started before Kelly killed himself.

I wonder if Wilson noticed that as time has gone on Kelly hasn't turned out to be some hero, but a backstabbing leaker himself. Why, if we want to draw parallels.....then I guess we can anticipate how Wilson's name will be mud when the facts are all known on this.

Mud to thinking people who value truth and honor, that is. I don't expect the mainstreams to get it.
