Holy cow, I had no idea that he wrote political essays. Ender's Game is one of my favorite books.

That's why I listed looooong list of his essays. He is a conservative democrat heavily supporting Pr. Bush. His discussion websites are populated with liberals who are delightfully annoyed with his pro-action stance.

Card is one of my favorite SF authors. I have read all of the Ender's series including the Shadow novels. The political intrigue in the Ender novels is very realistic and compelling.

I loved Ender's Game as well, havent read any of the rest of the series. A bump for OSC, who is a Truman Democrat, maybe he is a liberal, but he believes in defending America and what it stands for,.

In one of his essays he entions Sharyn McCrumb's novels about the Mountains and mountain people of North Carolina.
McCrumb also wrote the two definitive sendups of Science Fiction Fandom.
Bimbos of the Death Sun
and
Zombies of the Gene Pool

Well, then you HAVE to read Ender's Shadow. Same story told from Bean's perspective.
Quite enjoyable...

It has now 7 books in the Ender's series. After the title book, there are 3 "vertical": developing through time. And 3 "horizontal" following the events immediately after the Ender's game: the Shadows sub-series. The vertical stuff is more for the hard SF fan.

Sad really, I liked some of Card's science fiction/fantasy forays. Didn't realize his political stance was so warped

Ender's game was silly. 8 year old kids recruited to command the military because the adults can't think creatively enough to beat the aliens. Give me a break! I hardly ever read sci-fi, but this one was highly recommended.
I've read Card's political commentary, however, and he usually has some good points. But I give him credibility for the soundness of his arguments, not because he wrote those books.

Just finished reading the essay, and it's a good one. I agree, except he forgot to mention North Korea and the little gamed China is playing.

I'm a big Sci-Fi geek and I'm with you....I hated Enders Game.I wish to hell people would give up on the "Hyper-Intelligent and Mature" child theme in movies or books. It's stupid. It's always been stupid. It always will be stupid.
To: Defiant
Um, incase you failed to grasp the concept, it's called Science FICTION for a reason.
Jeeze...
