I was not aware of such a "no U.S. flag" movement. I do not agree with it, nor do I believe that either the Friends of the Hunley or the South Carolina Hunley Commission (who are calling the shots on the funeral) had anything to do with it.

If such a petition/movement exists, I strongly suspect that it began, at least, as backlash against earlier protests against the display of the Confederate flag (especially the Battle Flag) at the ceremonies.

I fully expect to see blue-clad (Union) reenactors in the funeral cortege. Should they not bear the proper flag?

This entire subject of protesting what should be a solemn, historical ceremony is disgusting. No matter which side of the issue they are trying to hype, such intrusive opportunists are, IMNSHO, no better than the proverbial "[foreign object] in the punchbowl"...

Why should there be Yankee Reenactors at this funeral?

This is about SOUTHERN MEN.

I love the Grand Old Flag as much as anyone, but it is highly inapropriate to have it at that ceremony.
