They were brave soldiers. To get into that can deserves a medal for the bravery of the act alone.

Not sufficient in this Brave New World

Such an honor has been reserved for sitting or long-serving congressmen in recent years.

I don't give a rats butt wether the US ever recognized the CSA or NOT! The facts remain: 11 states voted legally to leave the Union. They formed a nation that was defeated on the battlefield, but it doesnt mean they didn't exist.

I think you got my point. 'Nuff said.

Oh, I get your point alright. You simply have no idea what you're talking about.

Not all 11 voted to leave. And the Supreme Court later determined that their actions were illegal.

Kudos to those brave and gallant soldiers that fought to defend their country. Their resting place has been disturbed, now let them be honoured and laid to rest again. May they be forever remembered. Deo Vindice.

The Supreme Court led by the man whose actions and urgings pushed the union into war to destroy the Confederacy and reclaim the land. Not to mention the monies going into the US coffers

It was a 5 to 3 decision.

Abe also was shot with Reb currency in his billfold.

CSA or Confederate state paper goes for heavy bucks today.

I have a $20 New Orleans note printed in NYC in 1862.

How about that?

My two Reb captured Colts are worth 3-5 times what a regular US Colt is worth.

A Pocket Navy .36 and an Army .44

NFS

Did sell a Spiller & Burr last year

Money talks

Are you saying that none of the members could possibly have decided the matter on the merits of the case?

For that matter, why sould those Confederate sailors get greater honors than South Carolinians who died in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam ar any other conflicts? I don't mind the notion of burying them with Naval honors (and I doubt any Navy guys would deny that - but they an speak for themselves), but lying in state is not appropriate, given that it hasn't happened for soldiers who have served the US.

These men fought for their home state of South Carolina, yet some representatives of the people would not honor them. How quickly they forget it was their decision that lead these men to war.

Honorable men of South Carolina, you are not forgotten!

The story is true. I am from SW Virginia and I have a great uncle, long dead, by the given name Ulysses Grant. While researching my family tree, I questioned that one, and my father told me that he remembered the story that their grandfather was at Appomattox and was so impressed by Grant that he named his son for him. Southerners are proud people. He must have made a REMARKABLE impression to have named a son for winning general!

Only Grant saved the Union.

The north was only interested in exploiting the south, as fully proven during Reconstruction and the weird state legistlatures the north mandated.

Open a few books and read.

The north had plenty of slaves.

I was born in CT and lived in the north, FL, and NC.

Served at Jax and Benning.

The north is not known for sharpshooters and patriots today.

The land of the libs.

NYC had bloody riots and burned down much of the city.

You've been reading lib propaganda and watching PC TV and movies.

An equal Yank force against a Reb force was not much of a battle.

Yanks expected to be able to run home to mommy early in the war.

Rebs fought on meager rations with few supplies.

Check who made boots for both north and south.

Check where uniform decorations were made.

England was making London Colts for the north and London LeMats

France was making Paris LeMats for the South and LeFaucheux pinfires for Yanks and Rebs too.

The LeMat was designed by a Southerner and only recently has been sucessfully reproduced.

It had a large grapeshot barrel under the 8 shot cylinder barrel.

Incredible technology for the 1859-1867 period.

Texas had it's Dance Brothers revolvers.

Who really won the Civil War?

Ask the folks in Buffalo.

Hillary has not helped them.

If they move south they can find work and a better lifestyle for less.

If they have the grit(s).

You're right about that. Sailors look out for each other.

I still think the UDC, SCV or a similar historical society would give them a better sendoff than anybody else could do.

"Can you imagine how we would be perceived by the rest of the world honoring these men who fought for slavery?" said Jackson, the descendant of slaves.

Those men served their STATE, regardless of the state's position for/against slavery. To serve when called/required deserves respect on that merit alone.

We have argued that point before, and you know it is total bullshit.

The states all called conventions which submitted the question to the people. THE PEOPLE.....they decided by vote to secede.

The Supreme Court deciding AFTER the fact doesn't have any bearing and YOU know it.

Partner:

Why should there be Yankee Reenactors at this funeral?

This is about SOUTHERN MEN.

I love the Grand Old Flag as much as anyone, but it is highly inapropriate to have it at that ceremony.

Really? When did the people of South Carolina vote?

The Supreme Court deciding AFTER the fact doesn't have any bearing and YOU know it.

Sure it does. It means that the acts of unilateral secession as practiced by the southern states had no basis in law and were illegal.
