Why?

The details are just bizarre- the boat named after the family that owned his ancestors as slaves, the sign taped to the wall of his cell ("Problem Child"), the legal aid lawyer wearing the surgical mask and gloves and diagnosing him as bipolar. The quote from the police officer in the very last line. It's all too theatrical.

Unmitigated fabrication and a load of used food.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

<<The four friends were suddenly confronted by New York City Police, and quickly thrown against the car, handcuffed, and taken into custody. No explanation, no
Miranda Laws given, no questioning of witnesses of the bottle-throwing incident. Only after a long night spent in jail was this promising law student released, although
with no explanation, no apology, and no dignity.<<

Yup. . .must be true simply because he said it was true.

He has made a career out of being wrongly arrested. I think he allowed the arrest and mistakes to compund to geta better story.

Looks like it. It also looks like the Village Voice doesn't believe in fact-checking, either. I'd be a little leery to publish something by this guy if I was a publisher.

You should be ashamed.

Time to go back to sensitivity training, I suppose.

I wondered if anyone would believe me when they heard I had been wrongfully arrested again. I could hardly believe it myself. Since I was interviewed on 60 Minutes in 2001 about the first incident, I have had more than a dozen cases of identity theft. Funds have been removed from my bank account; credit cards obtained with my Social Security number have been maxed out.

This reeks. The guy says he studied law and later refers to himself as a black lawyer, but he's the never-ending helpless victim of repeated identity theft.

Either he's making a career of selling his identity, or he's terminally stupid.

Poetry Ona Move
The Friends Center
1515 Cherry St.
doors open at 6 p.m.
Donations encouraged
Amiri Baraka, Amina Baraka, Bryonn Bain and Walidah
Imarisha will perform spoken word in honor of the MOVE 9,
political prisoners who have been incarcerated for 25
years. There will also be art by Theodore Harris and
an exhibition of MOVE artifacts.

Let see, Byronn hangs out with racists, supports cop killers and terrorists, but wants us to feel sorry for him because he had warrants out for his arrest and was-GULP-arrested?

Raw nerve ending Bain just took a case of identity fraud and rightful arrest and tried to make it into a racial issue. Try suing Byronn, see if the judge rules the arrest was legal and that you should have protected your SSN a little more.

Amiri Baraka, Move 9? You just showed you true colors Byronn.

BTW, spoken word, slam poetry.....I'm nearly wetting myself.

A young inmate who voiced his reluctance to do so was dragged into a back room by three guards. Every man in line heard his cries as he was beaten.

Get your story right. It wa s POOR young BLACK inmate witha MUSLIM sounding name.

This guy is whining that there is some great conspiracy because his ID was stolen and someone committed felonies with it. This same story happens every day somewhere.

This is what happens when you have biased reporting. The legal aid lawyer asked him for a sample of his poetry teachings. He proceeded to recite the words to "The Beverly Hillbillys" jingle and THAT got him diagnosed as crazy.

Actually I have heard of a case like this. This is not an urban legend but unfortunately I don't have the referece at hand. A white male was arrested in Maryland by local police for outstanding felony warrants from New York. It took several days in the county jail and at least one trip to court to begin to get the story untangled. NYPD provided a faxed physical description of the perp, he wasseverl inches shorter, than the arrested man and BLACK. The fellow in MD had been a victim of identity theft. Furthermore the MD cops told him to expect more problems as once identity theft is perpetrated the info packet gets sold around to other people. This fellow here may be completely truthful.

Hmmm... cops do routine traffic stop, check your id and find you have warrants out for your arrest.

"But wait, officer, I've had my identity stolen, really!"

"Oh, well, off you go then."

Inconvenient? Sure. But it only took the system three days to figure this out. He wasn't tortured, denied counsel, executed or anything else. IF this really happened this way, it shows that the system actually works pretty well.

As a former prosecutor, I find his story to be credible. I have seen people mistakenly arrested on the wrong warrants before

The details are a little weird (the defense counsel with the gloves and mask is especially strange). I'm willing to believe that he was mistakenly arrested, but I think he really embellished the story.

No one doubts people have been arrested based upon mistaken warrants, but every sane person can see the story this guys is selling isn't worth a dirt clod.
