I am white and was born in America, from nth generation Americans. There are black people who were born in America from nth generation Americans. But if they are African-American because of where the ancestors many generations ago were born, then so am I. Indeed, some of their ancestors passed through Europe before going to America - just like my ancestors did.

My mother's family is American indian, and I recognize the mind-set. Pretend that the original culture exists even though it died at least a hundred years ago. or has been so adultered that it is nothing like what it was. Nearly all blacks, like nearly all those who claim to be American indian, are in fact mixed bloods with almost as many European ancestors as African or aborginal-American.
