The best excercise of the franchise I ever made was that vote in 1976. It saved the republican party and the nation from it continuous march to socialism by leaders in both parties. Only in defeat did the party cast off it "Me too", (those republicans that would do everything the dems do but a bit slower) leftwing socialists. Had Ford won in 1976, we probably would have had a Kennedy in 1980. We saved the future by enduring the Carter disaster.

"We spent too much"
--- THAT'S where it all ended for Bust-a-move. Who needs an honest, stupid 'Rat??

"McClintock was winning, but stumbled at the very end."In what way do you feel he stumbled?
" Arnold... pretty much tap danced and treaded water."Aside from adopting McClintock's workers' comp plank, he pretty much spouted the same platitudes and cheerleading I've been hearing from him from the beginning. He really had no defense against Ariana's charge that he's been a flip flopper.
"Cruz was smooth, and tried to play the polite victim, the poor little hard working Hispanic unfairly treated by the whites."
He reminded me of a trainee on a used car lot, trying to impress his manager with his first customer. I've had innumerable salesmen lying in their teeth to me and they all came off just like Bustamante. It was hilarious, though, when he answered the question about the deficit by saying, "well, we spent too much." I had to laugh. "No kiddin, Busty? You mean you put us down in this hole by spending too much, not by saving too much? Gee, thanks for tellin' me!"
" Given what each candidate needed to achieve in order to better position themselves, I hate to say it but I think Cruz was the most successful."You could be right about that. We'll have some idea who got traction when the next batch of polls come out... maybe.
"Tom did good enough to further close his gap on Arnold, making it even harder for one or the other to drop out."I don't either is going to drop. Tom McClintock said he was in to the finish and I've never, ever known him to go back on a promise like that. And Arnold won't be dropping out no matter what. He's too ambitious and after all the trouble the RINO establishment has gone to, they'll never run him for dog catcher if he drops on them. Truthfully, unless Arnold truly surges in the polls, I think Bustamante is in. As has been pointed out before, the great war in California is between the left and right wings of the Republican party, not the Republican Party's desire to wrest the governorship from the democrats.

I'd like to see McC pull out for the good of the party. That sort of "falling on your sword" would endear him to a core of Cali repubs for life. Won't happen. This was a chance to stop the slide. The state party will continue to move left, and guys like TM won't.
If he's unelectable today, he'll be even more so in coming election cycles.

How so?

You have a point. :O)

This would be a great question to ask him. On October 7th, at the conclusion of the vote count, if you are not elected as governor, will you tender your resignation as Lt. Gov.?
Love to see his face if someone had the stuffing to ask him that.
To: incindiary
I thought McClintock had the best answers. But man, I wish he wasn't so lacking in the charisma department. :-(You've got a tough choice, buttercup.

To: brydic1
You've convinced me. I'm going to vote for Hillary and Co. to save the future.

Less. Arnold has stated that he would just serve out Davis' term. Oops, that was Ubie.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
I swear to God that I am going to go down there and hit Bustamante over the head with an oar. What an arrogant ass. Did you see him acting like a baby when Arnold was calling him on the carpet about not supporting schools? The more Cruz talks, the better it was for all of his opponents. He's even worse than me when it comes to temper.

Sadly to say, few California FReepers care about substance vs style issues. All due respect to Jim Robinson as the creator of this site. I am shocked at the level of support for Rnold in California. Must be all those people from all those diversity planets on Earth that the current governor mentioned. California style Conservatives look like drunken Las Vegas crap shooters to the rest of the USA. Is the Fresno HRC going to call me a hater for saying so? I am very disappointed to read these remarks from you. I don't think you live here, or understand California politics well, and I am a little insulted by these remarks to say the least.

I believe him. After the term is over, he'll want to make another movie.
To: You Dirty Rats
I missed the whole debate.
Who won?
To: lainie
Poor Busty. He has to go home and ask himself where it all went terribly, terribly wrong. He knows he is toast!! Unfortunatly he is a rat, and we know what rats do when they are cornered, do we not? It will really get messy from here on out!
To: You Dirty Rats
I can't even begin to think that voting for Jimmy Carter was a good idea, particularly in retrospect.
MadClintock: "Pretty soon, I will be in first place..."
Pretty soon they will bring a straight jacket if he really believes that.
