"I do think it would be helpful to get the United Nations in to help write a constitution. I mean, they're good at that. Or, perhaps when an election starts, they'll oversee the election."

What is Pres. Bush thinking? The UN is socialist at best and communist a worst. What sort of constitution would they write? And why would they want an honest election? That is against everything they stand for.

I'm with you. We have to keep the United Nations MILES away from the new Iraqi Constitution.

We see what kind of crap Socialists come up with for a constitution with their work on the new one for the EU. It's a 200 plus page collection of brain farts and plain farts.

Nobody knows better than an America how to write a constitution for a free people deriving their natural rights from their creator.

Europeans think that sovereignity and rights are boons granted by the government. It's no wonder that they are so screwed up. We can't let them do that to the Iraqis as long as we can help it.

Disinvite the UN from this process, at least.

Let them hand out cakes.

He's doing it for appearance's sake. For US politics to show that he's attempting a compromise that the UN will in all likelihood (France and Germany) veto. Bush will smirk at them , turn around and shrug his shoulders to the american people and say, "See, I tried. They're being stubborn. It's not my fault."

If the UN does follow Bush's lead on this compromise, he knows that any attempts at forcing the direction of the Iraqi constitution by the UN will meet with failure because the Iraqi's mistrust the UN, and the Iraqi's have a strong sense of national pride and sovereignty.

I'll wait and see what he proposes to the UN later tonight...

A gradual ceding of real power would follow over the next six to nine months, Mr Chirac said.

However, he reaffirmed France's position that sovereignty should be "transferred to Iraq as quickly as possible".

Without Iraqi self-rule, he said, there was danger in having a "governor who is Christian and foreign" administer an Arab and Muslim country

Maybe he wants them to help write our new constitution once the US is merged into a North American Union.
