They aren't. African-Americans can be anyone from the continent of Africa --- South Africans, Ugandans, Nigerians, Egyptians, Ethiopians. Hispanics aren't even from one continent, they can be from Spain --- Europe, from Cuba, from Argentina, from Central America, the USA and many other places.
