A 20 year veteran with full permanent disability gets the disability pay but not his regular service pension because the government deducts the disability as a "tax" against their pension. These wounded former soldiers should, in my opinion get both. And for that matter, they(like former Sen. Max Cleleland, who left three limbs in vietnam)shouldn't pay any tax on either. I think it is unconscionable that President Bush is blocking the reform proposal which would end this injustice. I understand that it is difficult to actually believe this is the administrations position. But, as always, I encourage you to contact either your congressman or the white house and they can confirm the unfortunate truth.

...then you would expect Mr. Ashcroft would be eager to tell his own abstenence stories...

Expect? Why? Because the bogus request intended to ridicule Mr. Ashcroft was submitted on Harvard stationery? Some of us recognize both irony and pompous windbags.

I'm sure I would be skeptical if I were you as well, but I don't even like Bruce Springsteen's music, much less spend my time on any fan website. Ever since Born in the USA came out,I noticed that like for most pop tunes, people tend to read into it what they expect. So I punched up Google to get the lyrics and make sure I didn't just remember it wrong. I am, however a liberal, like our new Presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark, who sees no contradiction in being proud of the fact that, as General Clark said on Bill Maher's show last week, we live in a liberal democracy. The reason I registered on Freerepublic is the same reason I have listened to over 3000 hours of Rush Limbaugh ( thats right, 6 hours per week since spring of '92) During my 400 mile per week commute to my surgical practice in Lower Bucks County PA. It is the same reason that I've read William Buckley's classic work "UP FROM LIBERALISM"(out of print but available), and read conservative literature in about a ten-to one ratio over liberal works for more than 25 years. It's because I'm committed to get more intelligent with time, not more closed minded. I'm sure that all members of Freerepublic would find that their policy positions would be enhanced if they they read valid opposing views as much as possible. Let's face it, since I can appreciate "Maha-rushdie at the golden EIB microphone", some of our conservative bloggers can read Paul Krugman's "The Great Unraveling". Good reading!

Let me publicly appologize for leaving the impression that I was accusing you, syriacus, of lacking anything, be it an appreciation of irony or any other virtue. I am the one to blame for my lack of precision and I'm sorry. You may see in my recent follow up blog I refered instead to a generalized phenemenon among many active conservative bloggers. But you have to admit that it is ironic (I won't say hypoctitical) that Mr. Ashcroft wouldn't do what he had called on young people to do, since by his own admission he thought the letter from Harvard was real. Thanks for hearing me out. p.s. I thought adlaiestevenson didn't read well as a screen name.

Welcome anyway.

By the way, if you want to format your paragraphs, put a < p > after them (minus spacing.)

Unbelievable!

This is often my first reaction when reading posts from the DC people.

Springsteen has been history for more than 15 years. The only thing that keeps him in business, is his disgusting anti-police, anti-firemen, anti-military songs and remarks.

He thinks he's cool. Him and Bono ought to find that cave in Afghanistan and join binLaden and Saddam there!

I'll give you anti-police but I think you will find Springsteen held a number of fundraisers for the FDNY after September 11.

Well, I'll admit that there are beneficial things that young folks can do, that older folks don't need to do because they are at a different point in their lives.

I also have to admit you are much more familiar with the details of the Frankenprank than I am.

Why did Franken use Harvard stationery in the first place?

Were the young folks first contacted through letters written on Harvard stationery?

The man's singing style has always reminded me of someone suffering through an agonizing bowel movement. But then, thats just my opinion. Hell, even Bjork has a fan base.

If you have a problem with Liberals then the entertainment industry is 95% against the President, which would not offer much choices.

That's why I boycott their alleged art, besides, it's garbage. Especially movies.

Additionally, the mainstream media (which I also boycott) is 85% liberal.

The socialist indoctrination centers (government schools and universities)are 100% liberal. They should also be boycotted.

Do you think he doesn't support the troops because he voted against GWB?

Hell yes!

The only other way to vote was for Gore, who oversaw the disinfranchisement of military absentee ballots in Florida.

Gore, who was VP while Clinton cut the size of the military in half while in office.

Gore, who is a member of the democRAT party which both tied the hands of the CIA and flung open the doors of the country to illegally jack up the RAT voting rolls.

Gore, who took big illegal foreign money from Buddist Monks, sworn to poverty, and oversaw a myriad of other illegal offshore (Communist) contributions.

Gore, who's father was a racist and voted against the Civil Rights Act.

Gore, who was VP when X42 not only refused to react and fight terrorism on the several occasions (1st WTC attack, USS Cole, etc) but also refused to accept custody of Bin Laden when offered by Sudan.

Gore and the clinton RATS, whose legacy IS 9/11!

Yeah, I'd say he not only doesn't support the troops, he is downright ANTI-AMERICAN!

21. Seven Nights to Rock

Awesome tune. I'm seeing Springsteen Row 2 at Miller Park in Milwaukee a week from Saturday night.

Seven nights to Rock <----(chorus)
Seven nights to roll
Seven nights I'm gonna show my face with a different little woman in a different place
Seven nights to Rock, I've got seven nights to roll

Monday?! I'm gonna rock with Jane <---- (verse #1)
Tuesday?! It's gonna be Luane
Wednsday?! It's ol' Esteline
Thursday?! It's Betty Sue and me
Friday! It's Linda Lue
Saturday and Sunday - any chick'll do!

CHORUS

Monday?! Sister Suzie's ball! <------(verse #2)
Tuesday?! I'm at the union hall
Wednesday?! I'm at the roadhouse inn
Thursday?! I'm at the "Lions' Den"
Friday?! I'm at the "Chatter Box"
Saturday and Sunday everybody rocks!

CHORUS

Guitar Solo

VERSE# 2

CHORUS

Yadda Yadda Woo Hoo!

He was pretty good during his Born In The U.S.A days. That was his peak, though.

It's been steadily downhill since then. (I think Born To Run was his best.)
