I seem to recall that he wrote, "I Walk the Line," in a military barracks (Air Force?) in Germany somewhere in the 1950s. The thought of a skinny, young Johnny Cash strumming his guitar and singing in the obscurity of one of those long-forgotten barracks, dreaming of making it big in Nashville, always makes me smile.
