You're right, but times are different now (after 9/11). Zogby has an agenda -- he's an Arab who's been very critical of this administration's efforts in the WOT. So yes, I believe he's cooking the #'s.
I wish I had a nickel for every time I've refuted this claim. Almost every poll had the 2000 election as a very close race, especially after the DUI claim when undecideds broke for Gore.

No, he wasn't. First of all, absolutely ZERO pollsters predicted the outcome of '00, as it happened. No one said "popular vote to one, electoral college to the other".
But, every election cycle, Zogby is touted as the "most accurate". Let's be clear: John Zogby, of the Zogby Poll, made his name predicting the Republican takeover of Congress in 1994. Since then, he's been fair to middling, with no exclusive results to speak of.
It appears the rule of thumb is to look back one or two elections and state unequivocally that Zogby was the sole pollster who called it. This actually happened once, 9 years ago.
