Sorry - I don't agree. This election has a huge impact on the pocketbook of every Californian. We need a fiscal conservative and that isn't Bustamante.

But Bustamante will remain lt. governor no matter what happens.

If the recall fails, or if it succeeds but he isn't chosen as the successor governor, yes.

Obviously if it succeeds and he wins, he's the governor, not the LG. (He'd pick his successor LG.)

There is one wacky scenario, suggested by those who note that Davis hates Bustamante (it's mutual) and might choose to drag Busty down with him if, shortly before Oct. 7, Davis appears doomed: Davis would resign, which would make Bustamante the governor by operation of law, but would not halt the recall election. If the recall then fails, OR if it succeeds and Bustamante wins as successor, then Busty would remain governor, BUT IF the recall succeeds AND Busty (who by this point is governor, not LG) doesn't win as successor, he'd be out of both offices. Or so goes one theory. Busty would probably fight in the courts to go back to his LG cave.
