as fears mount that Teheran is on course to develop a nuclear weapons capability within two years.

The major problem here is...the US has no credibilty left. We said Saddam was "on the verge" of producing nuclear weapons, missiles loaded and ready to fire containing chem's on the perimeter of Baghdad, etc. None of this was the case.

Unfortunately, Iran may be the "real deal" yet..."the boy who cried wolf" to many times will have a impact here.

Time for Israel is step up to the plate. We'll cover their ass(politically), should they need it...

Let's see what Bush talks about tomorrow night, shall we?

I've got a sense that something big is in the wind.

You are right and one of the long-term consequences of the invasion of Iraq is that the same claims about WMDs cannot be used for any international co-operative effort in the future.

Also, I have an uneasy feeling that whoever does take over Iraq once this phase is over will make sure that he soon is in possession of WMDs. Sadaam's mistake was not having them. His sucessor will draw his own conclusions. Unless, of course, the sucessor is not any sort of dictator at all, and the country is transformed into a liberal democracy, in which case ... But I don't feel any need to make plans for that.

made this argument too many times to recall. and you are totally correct. however, maybe this opportunity will allow for damage control on the cred. dont expect israel to always have to save the world from itself. knocking out the major facilities would be a no stress operation for the b-2. GWB having the resolve to just do this w/o getting bogged down in another state dept/powell arabist mudpie in the UN (useless nations) with the euro-trash hankering for iranian rights to energy producing nuclear power is in doubt.
