People will follow a leader. He's definately showing leadership.

The law means California licenses could no longer be used for identification or driving in Colorado after the California bill takes effect next year. And that's ALL Californian drivers' licenses, not just the illegals'. Somebody else said it first, but this IS getting interesting now.

I keep reading about Colorado's new law regarding California's licenses but I can't find any information about it doing web searches. Have you seen any direct links to the Colorado law itself?
I'd love to have a copy of it to go with the petition for a referendum. I think it would be perfect -- a key selling point. demlosers' posting said McClintock made the comment, perhaps he has the info -- or perhaps the McClintock campaign does. It's interesting because their 2003 legislative session was scheduled to adjourn for the year in May. How could they get a new law after that? ( http://www.colorado.gov/government.htm)

Ballot initiative = make law
Referendum = repeal law

I can't wait to sign it and I've got two other voters in my household ready to do the same - and my wife was born in Bogota!

He seems to be the only one with any good ideas. An unelectable candidate (McClintock) cannot effect change.

I must leave for now. I'd appreciate it if the bumps, pings, and helpful info and links kept coming. Remember, this is just a start...a brainstorming and "get the word out" thread. I suspect it may be a couple of days before we can get more info on how to get this thing started.
Many, many thanks...you're all great.
To: monkeywrench
That's cute and it sounded almost pretty. If I wasn't so well grounded in reality I would tend to agree.
Hehe. Monkeywrench what a great name. . .

We need a massive ping list set up for this. I already know a bunch of people that think driver's licenses for illegals is a really bad idea (including some people against the Recall...)

Please, no flames, strela. We really don't want that on this thread. (Or at least I don't.)
Please, could everyone respect that and keep it civil? There are many other threads available for heated discussion of that sort.

RIGHT ON, that's it exactly. Now I gotta run.

This is not a bash McClintock or Arnold thread. This is serious business. Take your comments elsewhere. There are plenty of threads for you to spew your poison.

Well it's my understanding that it was legel for Illegal Aliens to aquire driver's licenses in California up till 1994. So this current legislation would be a referendum as well then. No? Yes?

This is insane .... do Davis realize what he is about to do ??
ANYONE can pick up a new ID in America simply by going to California, getting a Taxpayer ID and then turning it into a driver's license.
Boom, say goodbye to a criminal underclass (new ID)
Say goodbye to fugitives from justice
Say goodbye to real deadbeat dads.
Say goodbye to ANYONE that wants to disappear
Would it really be that hard to get a matricula ID if a criminal flashed enough cash at corrupt Mexican officials ?
